A Confession Paid with Life

Maggie Lynn ground her foot on my injured hand. "Felix, is this the person you've been protecting?" "It wasn't me! I didn't give him the ointment!" I screamed in agony. Henry, wrapping a bandage around his hand, feigned a placating tone. "Sis, don't be angry. Felix is just jealous that you're nice to me." "Jealous?" Maggie grabbed a handful of my hair and slapped me hard across the face. "I put a roof over your head, clothed and fed you, even held an art exhibition for you—and this is how you repay me, by hurting my brother!" "He switched the ointment himself! The surveillance footage will prove it!" I thrashed around, trying to break free. "Still lying through your teeth!" She kicked me hard in the chest. "Get out of the Lynn Family, and never come back!" I stumbled into the pouring rain, my broken hand dragging uselessly by my side. Henry's snickering voice chased after me. "You can't beat me. My sister trusts me." In a bar, a drunkard lunged at me. As I cried for help, I caught sight of Maggie standing at the doorway—she just turned around and walked away, cold and unfeeling. I pulled out my phone and dialed her number. "After all these years of relationship... does it mean nothing compared to a single lie he told?"收起

Chapter 1 of "A Confession Paid with Life"

The cold metal tool slammed against my wrist, the sharp crack of bone shattering painfully piercing. "Felix Jones, look closely—this is the person you're protecting." Maggie Lynn's voice was laced with venom, each word stabbing with unbearable pain. I curled up on the ground, my vision blurred as I saw Henry Lynn's arm wrapped in bandages, the resentment in his eyes stabbing like needles. "It wasn't me, Maggie Lynn; that ointment wasn't from me." I struggled to speak, my voice trembling and barely coherent. "If it's not you, then who is it?" Maggie Lynn stepped on my injured hand, a searing pain forcing a piercing scream from my lips. She looked down at me with contempt; all the warmth she once showed had turned to disgust. "Felix, I was truly blind to have ever loved you." Henry Lynn feigned concern from the side: "Sis, don't let anger ruin your health. Felix might have just been momentarily confused." "Momentarily confused?" Maggie Lynn sneered coldly, bent down, and yanked my hair. "He's trying to kill my brother!" She dragged me to the center of the living room, where the Lynn Family's relatives and servants surrounded us. "Everyone, take a look," Maggie Lynn's voice echoed through the room, "It's this ungrateful wretch. I fed and clothed him, yet he dared to use inferior ointment to make my brother sick!" Whispers rose among the crowd; their accusing gazes struck me like stones. "I didn't!" I screamed with all my strength, "Henry took the wrong ointment himself; it has nothing to do with me!" Henry's eyes instantly reddened. He tugged at Maggie's sleeve: "Sister, I'm not lying. Felix gave it to me; he must be jealous of how well you treat me." With a sharp slap, Maggie Lynn's palm struck my face hard, blood instantly seeping from the corner of my mouth. "Still stubbornly denying it!" She tossed my hair aside. "From today on, get out of the Lynn Family. Don't ever show yourself in front of me again!" Dragging my broken arm, I stumbled out of the Lynn Family's Villa. Outside, heavy rain poured down. The icy rain soaked through my clothes, extinguishing the last flicker of hope. I didn't know where to go; aimlessly, I wandered into a brightly lit bar. "Give me the strongest drink you have." I lay over the bar counter, the pain in my wrist making my whole body tremble. The bartender looked at my hand and frowned. "Sir, you need to see a hospital." "Cut the nonsense. Just give me the drink." I waved my hand impatiently. The sharp liquor slid down my throat, momentarily dulling the pain in my body. Glass after glass went down, and my consciousness gradually blurred. "Well, isn't that Felix Jones? How did you end up like this?" A greasy voice spoke. I looked up and saw Maggie Lynn's business partner, a drunkard with a face scarred and rough. "Stay away from me." I pushed him, but he grabbed my arm. "What are you acting so high and mighty for? Even Maggie Lynn's dumped you—come play with me instead." I struggled desperately, my cries for help swallowed by the noisy music. At that moment, I saw Maggie Lynn standing by the door, dressed in an exquisite dress, clutching her handbag, looking at me coldly. "Maggie Lynn! Help me!" I shouted, grasping her like a lifeline. But she turned and walked out of the bar without a moment's hesitation. At that moment, something inside me, along with my wrist, completely broke. After some time, I heard hurried footsteps as the drunkard was pulled away. "Are you alright?" A strange male voice asked. I opened my eyes and saw a man in a security guard uniform standing before me; the drunkard had already been dragged outside. "Thank you." I said hoarsely. "You should leave quickly; this place isn't safe." The security guard handed me a tissue. I steadied myself against the bar and staggered out of the bar. The rain was still falling; I walked step by step through it, not knowing where I belonged. The pain in my wrist kept me awake all night. Just before dawn, I remembered the day I first met Maggie Lynn.

The Three Numbers

When my son Larry suddenly blurted out "92, 70, 92," my smile froze on my face. "Who taught you those numbers?" Larry pointed toward the living room: "Mom." Quincy walked over holding a cup of water, her eyes dodging mine: "It's just some interest homework from kindergarten, asking the kids to memorize number combinations." She said it lightly, reaching out to pull Larry away. I grabbed her hand firmly, my voice turning colder, "Larry's only in middle class. What teacher would assign something so strange?" She suddenly pulled her hand back, panic flashing in her eyes. 'If you don't believe it, fine. Why bother arguing with the kid?' The next day, when I saw that live shopping video, the host's...

The Wife's Last Stand

I was holding my newborn daughter, my fingers trembling as I opened that post from Tate's secretary, Caroline. The picture showed her cradling her baby, with my husband Tate standing beside her, his eyes filled with a tenderness I'd never seen before. I dialed his number, trying to keep my voice steady: "Tate, I had our baby. It's a daughter." "Got it. I'll come over later." His voice was impatient. "I have some personal business to take care of right now." "What personal business?" I stared at the photo, my blood nearly freezing. "Is that your secretary and your newborn son?" There was a two-second silence on the other end, then his tone turned cold. "Amelia, Caroline saved my life....

Marriage on a Chip

I stare at that "Filial Piety Go Dutch Agreement," Victoria Bennett's voice cold as ice: "Sign it or not? If not, then divorce." "You really have to do this?" I clench my fists. "Ten years married, and you're counting filial piety like it's a debt?" "A debt? Sean Xavier, in these ten years, how many times have you taken care of my mom? Ever brought her a glass of water? Ever wiped her down?" "Who am I working for? Didn't I give you all the money?" "Can money buy companionship? Buy warmth? My mom's lying there, and even the caregiver is closer to her than you!" I was left speechless. She stepped closer, her eyes frighteningly red: "Either stick to...

Wedding Fraud

The night before the wedding, in the corridor, I ran into Bella and Henry. "Once we get the 200,000 betrothal gift, we're out of here. Alex is just a sucker." Henry slung an arm around her with a taunt. Bella didn't pull away. "Don't be careless. What if he gets suspicious?" "Suspicious so what?" Henry scoffed. "He hangs on your every word. Once the wedding's over, he'll have no choice but to take it lying down." I clenched my fists, my blood running cold. Bella seemed to sense something, but Henry patted her. "What are you scared of? He's just a fool. We'll take the money and go traveling." I swallowed my rage and turned to leave. I'd just walked...

In the bustling crowd at the airport, I clutched the sign that read "Ryan Jones," my heart pounding so hard it felt like it would jump out of my throat. Five years had passed, and he was finally back. But when I saw the woman holding a child beside him, my blood turned cold in an instant. "Ryan!" I called out to him, my voice trembling. When he turned around, a flash of panic crossed his eyes. He reached out to hug me, but I stepped away. "Who are they?" I asked. White Coat, Black Heart

I stood at the door, my voice hoarse: "Felicity, say it again—whose child is this?" Garrett Locke stood up, blocking her path: "Mine. What, do you have a problem with that?" Felicity Sullivan hid behind him, whispering, "Joseph, let's break off our engagement." I pulled the ring from my pocket and slammed it hard onto her chest: "As you wish." As I turned to leave, I heard Garrett Locke shout from behind, "Oh, I forgot to tell you—the villa now belongs to Felicity and me." I snapped my head around. "Joseph," Garrett Locke's smile was cold and piercing, "you don't actually think she stayed with you for three years because she loved you, do you?" Felicity Sullivan finally looked up...
