"Miss Rachel, Mr. Evan said he won't be coming back tonight. He asked you not to wait for him."The butler said, eyes lowered. "Tell him I've found out the truth about the car accident involving my mom back then." The phone was answered on the third ring. Evan's voice was impatient: "Rachel, what are you causing trouble about now?" "I'm not causing trouble. I'm just curious why my mom was so determined to take that road home that day. Did you tell her I'd be passing through there?" There was a sharp pause in the breathing on the other end. "What nonsense are you talking about!" His voice suddenly shot up. "Driver Jack came to see me yesterday and gave me something interesting. Just imagine if the police found out my mom's car accident wasn't an accident..." "Rachel," he suddenly interrupted, "Where are you now? Let's meet and talk." I laughed, "Meet? Fine. But before that, answer me one question—" I paused, enunciating every word. "Evan, when you married me, was it really for love, or just to have a scapegoat?"收起

Chapter 1 of "A Past in Chains"

The glass door of the Civil Affairs Bureau slid open, letting in a blast of cold air. I tightened my scarf again, my fingertips brushing the uneven scar on my wrist. Evan Silva followed behind me, his leather shoes making a heavy, dull sound on the marble floor. The staff glanced up at us, their eyes full of the usual scrutiny. "Is the divorce agreement ready?" I pulled the documents out of my bag, the edges of the paper slightly wrinkled from my grip. Evan's gaze fell on my hands, pausing for two seconds. I ignored him and slid the agreement across to the staff member. "Regarding the property division," I said steadily, "houses, cars, the savings, and half of Silva Group's shares all go to me." Evan Silva suddenly looked up, his brow furrowed. "Rachel, you..." "I'm giving up custody of the children." I cut him off, my gaze steady without a hint of hesitation. He froze, clearly not expecting me to say that. After all these years, he was probably used to me always bending over backward. The staff handed me the pen, and I signed first. The tip of the pen scraped across the paper with a rustling sound, as if marking the final period on this marriage. Evan Silva stared at the agreement for a long moment, hesitating with his finger over the signature line. I waited patiently, my fingertips unconsciously tracing the scar on my wrist. Those scars overlapped, the clearest marks of these years. Finally, he picked up the pen and signed his name. The handwriting was bold and elegant, just like when he proposed back then. But now, it only felt ironic. The staff handed over the divorce certificate, a red booklet glaringly bright. As I walked out of the Civil Affairs Bureau, Evan Silva called after me. "Rachel," his voice was hoarse, "I can't give you the shares. Silva Group is my father's lifelong work." My footsteps didn't stop; I just turned my head to look at him. "But you'll always be Selena and Robbie's mom," he said, "If you ever have trouble, just reach out to me anytime." He pulled a business card from his wallet and handed it to me. I took it, clutching it in my hand. The card's lettering was embossed in gold, showing his name and contact details. I nodded without a word and turned to leave. I walked to the corner, made sure he couldn't see me, then tossed the card into the trash can. The wind swirled the card around inside the trash can. In this life, I never want to see Evan Silva again. The scar on my wrist ached faintly, like a reminder that the wounds this marriage inflicted will never fade. I tightened my scarf and walked in the opposite direction. Sunlight filtered through the leaves, falling on me, but it couldn't thaw the chill deep in my heart. From now on, I'll have to walk my own path. No Evan Silva, no Silva family — just me. Thinking that, my steps grew lighter. The streets buzzed with traffic and noise, yet I felt an overwhelming calm, like finally waking up from a long nightmare. I raised my hand to touch my cheek—no tears. The tears that needed to fall had long since dried up over countless late nights. There was a coffee shop ahead; I went inside and ordered a cup of hot coffee. The aroma of the coffee spread, chasing away the chill on my skin. I stared out the window as pedestrians hurried by, each with their own destination. But my destination was far from here—to start a new life. The scars on my wrist were still there, but I knew they'd fade away over time, just like this unbearable marriage that time would eventually bury. I took a sip of coffee, warmth sliding from my throat down to my heart. It feels good. I'm finally free.

A Sham Marriage

The hemp rope in the warehouse bit into my wrists, sending sharp pains shooting through them. My parents were tied up beside me, and the kidnapper's knife glinted coldly. "Bruce, save me!" I screamed into the phone, but Bruce's voice was filled with hesitation: "Melody has acute appendicitis. I have to get her to the hospital first." "Don't hang up!" I sobbed, but only a busy tone remained on the line. "No money, no lives!" The kidnapper roared. A flash of the knife later, my parents collapsed in a pool of blood. Two years passed. My In-Laws' Twisted Wedding Rituals

"Phoebe, my mom said, you have to follow her rules today." Harrell Johnson grabbed my hand, his eyes avoiding mine. "What rules?" "You have to crawl on your knees from the door, two meters, not far." His voice grew quieter and quieter. I yanked my hand away: "Harrell Johnson, did you just say that again?" "Just two meters! Bear with it, I swear I'll make it up to you later!" He gripped my shoulders urgently. His mother's sharp voice came from outside: "Harrell! What are you dawdling for!" Pushed and shoved, I was dragged into the banquet hall, countless eyes burning on me like searchlights. His mother sat in the main seat, her red lips curling into a smirk: "Phoebe,...

On our tenth wedding anniversary, I joyfully prepared a table full of dishes and carefully made Rachel Jones's favorite strawberry cake. The Prisoner Who Became a Doctor

"Is this the residence of Mr. Felix Shaw?" A familiar voice pierced my eardrums. I looked up. Chris and Mindy were standing at the courtyard gate, holding a little boy in their arms. "Are you a servant?" Chris frowned and sized me up. "You look like my ex-wife." Mindy linked her arm through his, looking down her nose at me. "Cut the crap! My son has a heart condition. Dr. Shaw has to save him! We'll pay you any amount!" "Dr. Shaw does not see outsiders." I held back my hatred, my voice cold as ice. "Quit putting on an act!" Mindy stepped forward aggressively. "We have plenty of money. Do you dare delay his treatment?" "Money?" I let out...

Beware the Bride in Black

"Margaret Quinn, I married you just to keep my family happy, so don't get the wrong idea." Oscar Sterling said this without even raising his eyelid, as if I were nothing more than a speck of dust stuck to the sole of his shoe. "I know." I stirred my coffee calmly and said, "I'm just repaying Old Mr. Sterling's favor from all those years ago." He sneered coldly, finally lifting his gaze to look at me, his eyes dripping with scorn: "Then you better behave yourself and not meddle in things you shouldn't, especially anything involving Debra." "So what you're saying is," I put down my spoon and met his gaze, "even if your so-called 'life saver' turns out to...

Yield For Love

Seven years of marriage, I became nothing more than a shadow of Mark Lynn, even my pinned chat message was "Lynn Family's Closest Contact Network." Until on my younger brother's wedding day, he placed the family crest I had crafted with my own hands around another woman's neck. There were over ninety-nine unread messages in the group chat, and one read, "Why isn't the sister-in-law here?"—exposing me as a laughingstock. I stormed into the hotel, my high heels shattering that pair of bangles, and crushing the last shard of tenderness within my heart. When Mark Lynn knelt to beg for forgiveness, I smiled as I dialed the lawyer's number—the heiress of a grand family does not divorce; she merely becomes...
