Chapter 1 of "I Ruined My Movie King Husband"
The backstage at awards ceremonies is always a mess.
I had just stepped around the racks piled with gowns when I heard a familiar voice.
It's Pete Stafford, my husband, and currently the hottest Film Emperor.
He was surrounded by a group of reporters, his face wearing the usual gentle smile.
A reporter asked about my relationship with him, and also about Mona Sue, who has been the subject of heated rumors lately.
Pete Stafford's smile faltered for a moment, then turned into a look of mild contempt.
"Susan Quentin?" He snorted lightly, his tone dripping with disdain. "She's nothing but cheap trash, clinging onto me."
A low, sharp gasp sounded around them.
I stood frozen, my blood seeming to congeal in an instant.
Seven years of marriage, reduced by his own words to something so disgraceful.
The reporter pressed on, asking if it was really true that he wanted to be with Mona Sue.
Pete Stafford turned his head toward Mona Sue, standing nearby.
Mona Sue immediately wore an expression both innocent and shy, gently slipping her arm through Pete Stafford's.
"Mona and I truly love each other." Pete Stafford's voice was so tender, it seemed to drip with warmth—completely different from the tone he used when he spoke about me just moments before.
"From now on, I will only marry women as pure and innocent as Mona."
Mona lowered her eyelids, looking embarrassed, but softly said, "Pete, don't say that."
"Susan... she's quite good too, it's just that maybe we're looking for different things. After all, not everyone can hold on to their own boundaries."
Though it sounded like he was defending me, it was really a veiled accusation that I was loose and without principles.
I trembled with anger, ready to confront him, when suddenly I heard a strange noise.
That voice was childish, yet filled with malice.
"Mom, that woman is so hateful. Why hasn't she disappeared yet? Once Dad marries you, I'll make sure she's gone for good!"
I was stunned, looking around but didn't see any children.
Then the voice sounded again: "Dad just said he'd only marry Mom. That's great!"
"From now on, we can live in a big house and never have to kowtow to anyone! That woman is just a stumbling block—it'd be better if she were dead sooner!"
I suddenly looked at Mona Sue's belly.
She was wearing a loose dress, and her slight baby bump wasn't obvious.
It turned out the sound was coming from the baby inside her.
Could I really hear the baby's heartbeat?
This sudden ability shocked me—what chilled me even more was the venomous curse in the baby's words.
Mona Sue caught my gaze, glanced up at me with a flash of pride and defiance in her eyes, then quickly returned to that fragile, innocent look.
Pete Stafford was still talking to the reporter, unloading one insult after another about me.
I couldn't stand it anymore and turned sharply, striding away from backstage.
My heart felt like it was being squeezed by an invisible hand, the pain nearly knocking the wind out of me.
