More Stupid Than Evil

2026-03-04

I knelt on the beach, holding my burning-hot son, the phone pressed against my ear. "Holly! Thomas is poisoned! You have to come back now!" The music on the other end was blasting; she laughed and shouted, "Chuck Roberts, are you kidding me? I'm cutting the cake!" "His lips are already purple! Please, I beg you..." "Last time you lied, saying he was critically ill just to trick me into coming home, didn't you?" Her voice sharpened, "Don't disappoint me here!" A man's light laughter came from the background: "Holly, the fireworks are about to start." "Tristan's calling me." Her voice was light but cruel. "Figure it out yourself." The call was disconnected. I stared at the party photos she had sent and her final message: "Stop pretending. Even if he really is done for—doesn't that just mean you're useless?" I stared at the screen, typing my reply deliberately, word by word. "Holly Sheen, this is your own son! You'd better not regret this!"收起

Chapter 1 of "More Stupid Than Evil"

I suddenly jumped up from the sofa, clutching my chest tightly as if my heart was about to burst through my ribs. The clock on the wall was stuck at 7:30, with a sun sticker Thomas had drawn last week stuck beside it. On the living room table lay an open bag of strawberry-flavored cookies that Thomas hadn't finished. I slammed my knee against the sofa leg, gritting my teeth in pain, but I didn't have time to rub it. Stumbling, I rushed into the bedroom. Thomas lay on his side, his little blanket kicked down to his feet, his face flushed red like a ripe apple. I reached out and touched his forehead. The burning heat under my fingertips made my hand tremble. He groaned softly, instinctively clutching my sleeve with his tiny hand. In an instant, scenes from my past life flooded my mind. At that exact moment, I was rushing to the hospital holding my son, Thomas. The taxi got stuck halfway, and in my arms, he slowly lost all warmth. Finally, the doctor said, "You're too late." In my past life, I was frantic, calling my wife, Holly Sheen again and again. She answered but shouted at me, "Don't kill the mood." Later, I dragged her back from the beach. Her close friend, Tristan Morton chased after us in his car and plunged down a slope trying to avoid a truck. Later, Holly brought me a bowl of pork rib soup. I barely had a few sips before my stomach twisted in agonizing pain. She crouched beside me, her eyes cold as ice, saying, "How dare you kill Tristan? It's time to pay with your life!" I squeezed my eyes shut, pushing those images down, then pulled out my phone and dialed Holly's number. The phone rang seven times before it connected. On the other end came loud music, someone singing the birthday song, with Holly's laughter mixed in. "Chuck? Why are you calling at this time? Tristan and I are cutting the cake." Her voice was full of laughter. "Thomas has a fever—it's really bad. You need to come back immediately." I clenched the phone tightly. The laughter on the other end suddenly stopped. Holly's voice turned cold right away: "Chuck, can you stop doing this all the time? Last time Thomas just had a cold, and you said it was 'really bad.' Now you're trying to trick me into coming back again?" "I'm not lying to you. His breathing is off. You'll see it yourself when you come back." I stood up in a panic, walked to the bedside, and looked at Thomas; his little face was even redder. "I don't believe it. You just can't stand to see me with Tristan." Holly's voice was dripping with impatience, "The candles have just been lit on the cake. Do I really have to spoil everything by leaving? Can't you take him to the hospital yourself?" I was about to respond when Tristan's voice broke through the line, "Holly, stop arguing with him. Our chocolate cake will melt if we wait any longer. The birthday is what matters most." Holly uttered "okay" and said straight out, "I'm not coming back. Figure it out yourself." The call got cut off, the busy signal going "beep beep." I held up my phone, my hand frozen in midair. Thomas shifted in my arms, nuzzled his head against my neck, and softly murmured "Dad." My heart felt like it was pricked by needles—aching and breaking all at once. The tragedy from my past life must never happen again!

The Silent Wife

"This is the fifth surgery, Mrs. Claire," the doctor said, his gaze fixed on my throat, his voice heavy with gravity. "If we alter your voice once more, your throat may never fully recover." I signed the consent form without hesitation. More than my throat, I feared the pain twisted across his face whenever he heard my voice. That night, I pushed open the door and, with this new, hoarse voice, called out to him: "Ryan." True to form, he covered his ears again, curling inward, his reaction flawless. "Don't speak... Claire, go outside." I smiled, but tears fell onto the floor. Until dawn, I picked up the hearing aid he had dropped, and from the living room came my...

A Flaw Beyond Your League

Joan Smith snatched the crying Quinn. "If you hadn't used the child to trap me, why on earth would I marry you, a mere driver?" My blood ran cold as I watched her rush toward the balcony. "What are you doing?!" I lunged forward and gripped her tightly. "Destroy everything wrong!" she screamed. "My love with Seward, my life—it's all been ruined by you!" "She's your daughter!" "I don't have a daughter like that!" Despair washed over me like icy water. Looking at the daughter in my arms and her resolute face, I stepped back to the edge of the balcony, my voice so cold it sounded foreign to me: "If we're such an eyesore, then fine, just as you...

I Defended the Man who Hurt My Wife

I was once a renowned lawyer in the field. At three in the morning one day, my wife attempted suicide after being allegedly assaulted and was rushed to emergency care, while the police found a suicide note by her bedside mentioning a young master of an elite family—the client I had just signed. When I defended this elite family, I endured accusations of betraying my wife, asserting that she suffered from paranoia, and produced evidence of her voluntarily offering to be with my client...收起

Revenge of the Betrayed Lawyer

In the banquet hall, Dora Hill knelt there, her gown like a carefully cultivated white lotus. "Mr. Louis forced me..." she whispered. My fiancé, Sydney Ray, pushed through the crowd and crouched down, offering her a pristine white handkerchief. "Don't be afraid. I'll take this case." He raised his head and locked his gaze on me, his eyes as sharp as knives. "Nita Hill, you just stood there and did nothing. What kind of lawyer are you?" My heart suddenly clenched. In my previous life, I stopped him from defending Dora Hill. He framed me, causing me to die in prison. This time, I only took a sip of champagne and smiled faintly. "Go ahead, take it." "Sidney, the show is...

He Sought Her Comfort On My Period

Clutching my aching belly, I pushed open the door. Amidst the thick cloud of smoke, a woman in a camisole dress was slouched on the couch. "So, you're Jane Cheney?" She blew smoke rings, her eyes flicking over my pale face. "A woman in this much pain from cramps won't have an easy time getting pregnant later." I frowned at my boyfriend, Gene Carl, but he just tried to soothe me, gently steering me toward the bedroom. "This is my childhood friend, Charlotte. She can be blunt—don't take it personally. Now go get some rest." That night, I woke up in pain, only to find the space beside me empty. When I opened the bedroom door, I saw Gene Carl...

My Glow-Up After Divorce

"Natalie, why haven't you sent me the report yet!" Mark's cold and impatient voice cut through like a sharp blade. I mustered up the courage to reply, "I went to see my mom. She's not doing well." But he sneered, "This is what happens when people get old. Focusing more on the company is the real priority!" The gentle man he once was had vanished, leaving only this cold-hearted monster. I thought patience would bring peace, but all it brought was his escalating cruelty. It wasn't until he wanted to mortgage the house my mom left me for money that the anger in my heart finally erupted completely. "Mark, are you even human?" I screamed at him, my voice cracking....
