My Daughter, My Strength

Clutching the contract still warm from the printer, the moment I pushed open his office door, my blood froze. "Cedric, is this the overtime you were talking about?" He slowly pushed the woman in his arms aside, straightened his tie, and spoke with a dismissive tone, as if brushing off someone unimportant: "Genevieve, don't make a scene. We were just discussing work." "Does discussing work require being this close? Does it require you to loosen your tie?" My voice shook, not from sadness, but from the fire burning inside me. He frowned, his usual impatience showing: "Can't you be more sensible? Go home." I looked at him and suddenly felt that the face I had loved for so many years was terrifyingly unfamiliar. I bent down to gather the scattered documents, walked to the door, and then stopped—without looking back. "Cedric," my voice as cold as ice, "you will regret this." He probably thought it was just another empty threat and sneered, "Suit yourself."

Chapter 1 of "My Daughter, My Strength"

I gripped the contract papers I had just collected from the print shop, my fingertips turning white. The office door was ajar, faint sounds spilling out. I didn't think twice and gently pushed the door open. The scene before me hit like a bucket of ice water, soaking me from head to toe. Cedric Goth sat behind the desk, his legs crossed. His assistant, Juliette, was bent over the desk's edge, her fingertips entangled in his tie. Their closeness was glaringly obvious; they hadn't noticed the sound I made entering. I stood frozen as the papers slipped from my hands, scattering to the floor with a crisp rustle. They finally turned around, their expressions starkly different. Juliette hurriedly stood up, her cheeks flushing red, her gaze evasive. Cedric Goth, however, remained unnervingly calm, even leisurely adjusting his tie. "Genevieve, what are you doing here?" He stood up, his tone as flat as if he were talking about the weather. I didn't say a word, only stared at him intently. The love and trust of those years shattered utterly in that instant. He stepped forward, reaching out to touch my shoulder. I instinctively took a step back, avoiding his touch. Cedric's hand froze mid-air, a flash of surprise in his eyes quickly replaced by impatience. "Don't be upset. Juliette and I were just momentarily confused." He tried to soothe me, his tone indifferent. "Momentarily confused?" I finally spoke, my voice hoarse and cracked. Cedric Goth frowned, his tone softening slightly: "It was my fault. I won't do it again. You should go home; don't let this affect you here." I looked at his hypocritical face and felt only a chill in my heart. I bent down to pick up the documents on the floor, turned, and walked away without hesitation, not even feeling the slightest urge to look back at him. Stepping out of the office building, the cold wind hit my face. Leaning against the wall, I finally couldn't hold back the tears in my eyes. I took out my phone and dialed my brother Adonis Patterson's number. The moment the call connected, all my strength shattered. "Adonis," I sniffled, my voice trembling with emotion, "I want a divorce." Adonis was silent on the other end for a few seconds, then his calm voice came through: "What's wrong? Did Cedric mistreat you?" I briefly recounted what had happened in the office, my tone unnervingly calm and unlike myself. "That b*stard!" Adonis's voice immediately rose, burning with rage, "Genevieve, don't panic, I'm coming to get you right now." "No need, Adonis." I wiped away my tears, my gaze steadily growing firm. "I've made up my mind to leave him for good and take Linda with me." Linda is the daughter of Cedric Goth and me; she is five years old this year. No matter what, I must protect my daughter. Adonis Patterson was silent for a moment before his tone softened: "Alright, I support you. If you need help, just let me know anytime. You don't have to worry about money or a place." "Thank you, Adonis." I whispered my thanks. After hanging up, I took a deep breath, stifling the bitterness rising within me. Now is not the time to drown in sorrow; I need to make arrangements for Linda. I returned home; Cedric Goth had not come back yet.

The Partiality

I gripped the thermos handle tightly, my knuckles turning white. Laughter drifted from the hospital ward—it was Evelyn Carter's, clear and sharp, mixed with her words, "Reed, bring cake this afternoon." I looked down at the porridge I had simmered for two hours and suddenly found it laughable. Perhaps I am the only one in this world who mistakes their charity for love, their indifference for family.收起

My Marriage Was a Poison Pill

"What game are you playing now?" Raymond Shane pinched my chin, his eyes cold as ice, "Sign the divorce papers." I smiled, pushing my diagnosis in front of him: "Advanced stomach cancer. Satisfied now?" He didn't even glance at it, sneering, "Salome Dawson, your tricks to fool me are getting more and more pathetic." A girl's soft laughter came through his phone, and his tone instantly softened: "Be good, wait for me." After hanging up, his glare snapped back to me: "Don't touch Rose Xavier, or else—" "Or what?" I cut him off, "To stop my sister's medicine? Raymond Shane, that's all you're good for." "Go ahead and try." He leaned in close, his breath hot against my ear.收起

"Blair, you've been waiting for your sister Nancy to die, and now you've finally got your wish, haven't you?" Ben closed in on me step by step. "I didn't! She fell on her own, I never pushed her!" He suddenly grabbed my jaw tightly. "You two were the only ones on the top floor that day. If it wasn't you, who was it? You were jealous of her when she was alive, and now that she's dead, you even want to take her place. How despicable." "I didn't!" I held back my tears and broke free from him. Humiliated, I Showed My True Hand

The smell of alcohol in the private room mingled with a pungent perfume, choking me and making my throat tight. Mr. Wilson patted my shoulder: "Henry, it's not worth it to be such a yes-man." I downed the full glass of wine, my throat burning with pain. But Whitney sneered: "Henry, you look so disgusting like this." "I'm doing all this for you," I said, clenching my fists. "For me?"
