My Double Life

2026-03-04

My fingertips gently brushed the invitation in the inner pocket of the off-white suit. The glory of the National Piano Championship seemed within easy reach, yet an ominous premonition pierced my heart like a cold wind. "Time's up, Hugo. We should head out now." Stacy's voice was still as soft as ever, but for some inexplicable reason, it sent a shiver down my spine. The moment the car door was pulled open, a sudden massive force struck. With a loud "thud!", my fingers were tightly crushed, and a wave of intense pain surged over me. "Stacy! Have you lost your mind?" My eyes widened in disbelief as I stared at the girl who had once fought side by side with me. "Only this way can Simon's path to the championship be completely unobstructed," she said, a cold smile curling up at the corner of her mouth, her eyes icy cold. I struggled to break free, only to hear her speaking into the phone: "Simon, he won't make it. The championship is yours." At that moment, it suddenly dawned on me—everything had been a conspiracy all along! "Do you really think this can destroy me?" I ground my teeth, my gaze sharp and intense. "We'll see about that!"收起

Chapter 1 of "My Double Life"

The invitation to the National Piano Championship still rested in the suit jacket pocket, the off-white fabric pressed tightly against my chest, the sharp edge of the paper clearly felt beneath the cloth. My fingertips gently stroked the outside of the pocket, imagining how, in just a few hours, these hands would leap and dance across the black and white piano keys; my heart couldn't help but race, and even my breath held a trembling excitement. "It's almost time. We should head to the venue." Beside me, Stacy Scott opened the car door, her voice soft as if wrapped in warm cotton, sweet and tender enough to warm the heart. She wore a pale blue dress, her long hair draped over her shoulders. The warmth in her eyes was tender, like the countless nights she had stood by me through my piano practice. I nodded, a smile playing at my lips, bending to settle into the passenger seat. After years of competing, this was the closest I had ever come to becoming the national champion. My heart was a swirl of nervousness and anticipation, my mind filled with the melodies of the pieces I was about to play. Just as my right hand touched the car door frame, an immense force suddenly slammed into me from the outside. "Bang!" A heavy, dull thud rang out as the car door slammed down, mercilessly crushing my finger bones like a massive weight. Sharp pain shot from my fingertips up through my arm in an instant, like countless fine needles piercing relentlessly into my bones, tightening every muscle in my body. "Ah!" I cried out in pain, cold sweat breaking out instantly on my forehead. Instinctively, I tried to pull my hand back, but the car door held fast, utterly immobile as if welded shut. "Stacy Scott! Open the door quickly!" I stared intently at Stacy Scott; the tenderness that once graced her face had vanished without a trace, her eyes as cold as ice in the dead of winter, utterly devoid of warmth. This sudden change sent a jolt through my heart, an ominous premonition rising unbidden. She said nothing, instead raising her hand and pushing hard against the car door once more. "Crack!" The sharp sound of bone breaking exploded in my ears, numbness spreading instantly from my fingertips throughout my entire palm. Warm blood dripped steadily down the gap of the car door, pooling quickly on the ground into a small, glaring red puddle that made my head spin. "Are you crazy?" I frantically tried to pry the car door open with my left hand, but my fingers were limp and powerless. The harder I struggled, the more excruciating the pain in my right hand became, as if my bones were about to shatter. Stacy Scott finally released her grip and stepped back. Crossing her arms over her chest, she looked down at my right hand, hanging limply by my side, mangled and bloody. A strange, triumphant smile played on her lips—a grin that sent a shiver down my spine. "This way, you won't be able to steal Simon Lewis's Champion title." Her voice was chillingly calm, without a hint of remorse, as if she had done nothing more than a trivial favor. Her words were like a sharp ice pick, piercing mercilessly into my heart. A shiver ran through me as I instantly realized—this was no accident; she had done it on purpose! Simon Lewis, my junior, had always seen me as the greatest obstacle on the road to the Champion title, and Stacy Scott, the partner I once trusted and relied on, had conspired with him to betray me! From afar came the wail of an ambulance, growing louder and clearer as it approached. My consciousness was already hazy; the twin blows of pain and betrayal nearly made me faint. I vaguely remembered hearing Stacy pull out her phone and make a call, her tone tinged with a hint of triumph: "Simon Lewis, he won't be coming. Don't worry, the Champion title will be yours."

After I Can See Again

The day I took off the blindfold, the world stung me to tears— The first thing I saw was the wedding photo in the living room; the groom was my husband, but the bride was not me. The nanny came in carrying medicine, her face matching the one in the photo, smiling like a knife. It turned out that in those three years of darkness, they played me alone— even my blindness was a lie. I clenched the listening device in my palm and whispered, 'Now, whose turn is it to be blind?'收起

The Dead Dog

The moment the hallway light came on, I saw that pair of unfamiliar men's shoes—mud spotted with fallen plane tree leaves, like blood. Duffy, the ten-year-old dog, sniffed at them and suddenly growled low at me, as if sensing death. Windy Scott's voice came sharply from the living room: "Send it away." That one sentence condemned both me and the dog to death. That night, I memorized the temperature of hatred.收起

I Married the Kidnapped Girl

The interrogation room's light was brutally pale and dazzling. I lay face down on the cold metal table, the dull ache at the back of my neck still spreading. Beside my ear, the officer's sharp questioning struck like a hammer: "Mason Lee, Ruby Clark has already identified you as the perpetrator of the serial murder case. The evidence is conclusive—why won't you confess?" The sudden sharp pain intensified. I snapped my eyes open to see the familiar ceiling of my rented room, the peeling cheap paint exactly as I remembered. The mobile phone screen glowed, the date searing onto my retina like a red-hot iron—the day, five years ago, when Ruby Clark first dragged me into this abyss. In my...

The White Sheets at the Crossroads

"Hello, is this Nona Sullivan? Please come immediately..." "I'm coming right away." Red lights flashed outside the window, like blood. Police line, white sheet, twisted car. I knelt down, my knees scraping against the concrete. "No—let me see! Those are my parents!" Mark Shane held me tightly, his chest burning hot, but his voice was ice cold: "Nona, don't make things worse." Then she arrived. Yvonne Quentin, like a drifting feather, fell into his arms. "Mark... my heart hurts..." He let go of me as if discarding an old piece of clothing. "Nona, I'll take Yvonne to the hospital first." "Here... You handle it." I stared at the dark stain on the floor and suddenly heard myself laughing. In the...

I Won't Stay for You

Amid the bone-chilling wind, I clutched the sunflower I had carefully picked myself, waiting bitterly before the Teaching Building. Yet my phone rang first, and on the other end came his perfunctory excuse: "Busy with the club, next time." Before his words had even faded, I turned and saw him holding a red rose, confessing his deep affection to Melody Scott. It was then I realized I had become the most pitiable supporting character in this tale of love.收起

The Bride Who Chose the Nation

Clutching my wedding dress, I stood at the end of the red carpet, only to be met by the retreating back of my fiancé, Henry Johnson. "Susan, Sydney is missing. The wedding is off." Amidst the guests' uproar, Sydney James suddenly appeared through the side door, her skirt fluttering. Henry Johnson rushed over to shield her. "Sydney, are you alright?" Sydney James leaned on his shoulder, but her eyes locked on me. "Henry, I'm a little scared. Please take me home first." "I will not go through with this marriage." I tore off the veil and turned away amid the stunned silence. Right then, the comm from the Initiative cut through the quiet: "Susan Trent, confirm your status — in...
