My Jinx, Your Doom

2026-03-04

"Congratulations, Una Cruise." Linda Thorne swayed into my view. "But I did say earlier that anyone who likes Henry is doomed." The entire room burst into laughter. I watched my fiancé, Henry Lewis, standing protectively by Linda Thorne, and I smiled. "Sometimes, vows turn out to be more potent than you'd expect." I whispered. No sooner had I spoken than a smear of bird droppings fell from above, landing squarely on Linda Thorne's head. Screams erupted. Henry Lewis, furious, grabbed my wrist. "Una! You know da*n well what your cursed mouth—" I shook him off and glanced out at the suddenly darkening sky. "Those who did bad deeds," I smiled wryly, "are bound to be struck by lightning." His face changed instantly. "What did you just say to me?" I leaned close to his ear, speaking each word deliberately: "God is watching. Henry Lewis, let's see if my cursed mouth can call down heaven's wrath!"收起

Chapter 1 of "My Jinx, Your Doom"

Tonight is the engagement party for Henry Lewis and me. The ballroom sparkled with crystal chandeliers, the air thick with celebration. But inside me, it felt like a heavy stone was pressing down — an unmistakable unease. I was born with a "quirk." Any bad wishes I speak always come true in strange ways. My friends jokingly call me a jinx, but only I know how much trouble this power really causes. "Una, what are you daydreaming about?" Henry walked over and reached to wrap his arm around my waist, but I instinctively dodged. His hand froze mid-air, a flicker of displeasure crossing his face. "Still sulking? It's just that Linda is coming. She is like a younger sister to me; don't overthink it." I said nothing, my gaze settling on the entrance not far away. Linda Thorne wore a scarlet slip dress, her makeup striking and bold, holding a delicate clutch as she approached us with a radiant smile. I knew their relationship was far more complicated than it seemed. "Congratulations, Henry, Una." Linda came up to us, but her gaze was fixed solely on Henry. "I thought you wouldn't invite me—after all, I did say before that whoever tries to steal Henry away will pay the price." She paused, deliberately raising her voice so the surrounding guests could hear: "Speaking of which, I once said that if anyone fancies Henry, they'd get smacked unconscious by bird droppings the moment they stepped outside. Una, do you think that curse actually works?" A low murmur of laughter rippled through the crowd as the guests watched the spectacle with amusement. I met Linda's defiant gaze, took a deep breath, and said calmly, "Sometimes, vows turn out to be more potent than you'd expect." The moment I finished speaking, a dark object fell from the skylight above the banquet hall, landing squarely on Linda's head. It was bird droppings. Linda screamed, flailing as she hurried to wipe it off; her makeup instantly ruined, she looked utterly disheveled. The guests nearby lost all restraint and burst into laughter. Henry's face went pale. He rushed over and grabbed my wrist, his voice full of anger: "Una! Are you doing this on purpose? You the power of your cursed mouth, yet you still say things like that deliberately!" I shrugged off his hand. "She provoked me first, and I was just telling the truth." "Telling the truth?" Henry stood in front of Linda like a mother hen protecting her chick. "Look at her now! Una, you've gone too far! Today is our engagement party—can't you behave yourself for once?" Linda leaned against Henry's chest, crying softly, "Henry, I didn't do it on purpose. I just wanted to joke with Una—I never expected..." "Alright, stop crying. I'll take you to get cleaned up." Henry gently patted Linda on the back, then turned to glare at me. "Una, you need to seriously reflect on yourself!" After saying that, he left with Linda, leaving me standing alone, bearing the strange gazes of the guests. I watched their departing backs, as the last flicker of hope in my heart completely shattered. I coldly said in their direction, "Those who did bad deeds are bound to be struck by lightning."

The Battle in the Office

I clutched the stack of meeting minutes still warm from the printer, standing outside the director's office. The conversation coming from inside felt like sharp knives, piercing straight into my heart—"Please guide me more in my work from now on." Who else could that sickly sweet voice belong to, if not Mary, the new project team leader? "The company has rules; we don't discuss personal matters during work hours." Kevin's voice was as cold as ice. Before long, in the pantry, Mary's "accident" left me soaked through, and the monthly report was ruined beyond repair. "Oh no, I'm so sorry—why are you so clumsy when walking?" She apologized with her mouth, but her eyes were filled with pride. I clenched...

I clenched my fists so tightly that my knuckles turned white. "Nora has a fever of 39 degrees Celsius. I brought her here for emergency treatment. What about you two? Do you need to accompany the partner all the way to the door of the Infusion Room?" Mia's face changed abruptly. She pushed Mike's...

The Mad Girl

I curled up beside the garbage heap at the hotel's back door, my severed finger dragging bloodstains across the cement floor. Laughter drifted from the revolving door as Eva Sue linked arms with Charles Pearson and stepped out. She wore the wedding dress that should have been mine, while my face still bore the scars of the sulfuric acid she threw on my birthday that year. Confession by the Gravestone

Chris's voice was icy. "Sign it, and we'll put this behind us." I stared at the Letter of Forgiveness. "Put it behind us? Our baby is gone! Henry hit me drunk driving, and you want me to sign this?" Lucy suddenly popped out from behind him, tears streaming down her face as she tugged at his sleeve. "Chris, if Ms. Lynn refuses to forgive my brother, is she going to ruin us?" "Shut up!" I screamed, cutting her off. I turned to Chris. "You're protecting her? Just because she's Henry's sister? Have you forgotten about our baby?" Chris frowned and shielded Lucy behind him. "Mindy, stop being unreasonable. Lucy is innocent, and Henry is already regretful." I laughed until tears...
