My Wife's New Favorite

I opened the car door, and a young man was sitting in the passenger seat, his shirt crisp and a smile playing on his lips. "My new assistant, Casper Jackson." Gillian Brady didn't even bother to look up. "Hello, Mr. Stephenson." He reached out his hand, but I didn't take it. "Why do you get to sit here?" "Car sick." Casper Jackson shrugged. "Gillian's cutting me some slack." "Gillian?" I stared at Gillian Brady. "You really letting him call you that?" "Owen Stephenson, what the hell are you doing?" She finally looked at me, her eyes full of impatience. I smiled and pointed at Casper Jackson, "He's your assistant?" "Can you be a little more mature?" Her voice sharpened. Casper Jackson slowly interjected, "Mr. Stephenson, don't get angry. Should I leave?" "Stay seated." Gillian Brady held onto his arm.收起

Chapter 1 of "My Wife's New Favorite"

The alcohol in my stomach burned like a ball of fire, making my temples throb. When my phone vibrated in my pocket for the third time, I finally pulled away from the drinking table, my fingertips sticky with the smell of booze. "I'm at the parking lot entrance, the white car." Gillian Brady's voice came through the receiver—cold, nothing like her usual warmth. I rubbed my heavy head and stumbled toward the parking lot. A breeze blew, the booze hit me again, and the streetlights blurred into a mess before my eyes. The white car was easy to spot, but when I opened the door, I froze right there. A young man sat in the front passenger seat, barely in his early twenties, wearing a sharp, well-fitted white shirt, with bold eyebrows and eyes. When he saw me get in, he lifted his eyelids slightly, the corner of his mouth curling into a half-smile. "Who are you?" I frowned and asked, my eyes landing on Gillian Brady in the driver's seat. Gillian was adjusting the navigation without looking up: "This is Casper Jackson, my new assistant." Casper reached out his hand confidently, his fingers long and clean: "Hello, Mr. Stephenson, I'm Casper Jackson." I didn't take his hand. The air seemed to carry a faint scent of his cologne mixed with the perfume Gillian always wore — a strangely sharp blend. "Assistant?" I repeated myself, the irritation in my voice pretty clear, "That's my seat, so how did your assistant end up sitting there?" Casper pulled his hand back, shrugged with an innocent expression: "Mr. Stephenson, sorry, I get really carsick. Sitting in the front seat is more comfortable, and Gillian was just trying to be considerate." I felt anger flare up instantly and turned to Gillian: "If I'm not mistaken, the front passenger seat has always been mine." Only then did Gillian turn around, her face showing clear impatience: "Owen, what are you making a fuss about? Casper does get carsick — what if he pukes in the back?" I was stunned. After five years of marriage, Gillian has never used this tone with me. No matter how late I got home before, she'd always warm some soup for me. If I frowned, she'd nervously ask if I was feeling okay. But now, just because of some assistant she just met, she actually said to me, "What are you making a fuss about?" Casper was standing nearby with this half-smirk, and the challenge in his eyes was practically spilling over. "I'm making a fuss?" I laughed bitterly and pointed at Casper, "Gillian, he's your assistant, not your ancestor!" "Owen!" Gillian raised her voice, "Can you be a little more mature?" "Casper is the capable assistant I hired. The company's been busy with projects lately, so don't let this little thing mess with our work." Work? I don't think he's here to work at all. Casper spoke up just in time, breaking the silence, but it felt like pouring gasoline on the fire: "Mr. Stephenson, please don't be angry. This is all my fault." "Maybe I should just sit in the back. Even if it's a hassle if I get sick, at least it won't affect your relationship with Gillian." He was about to stand up, but Gillian held his arm: "No need, just stay seated." The car started and smoothly drove out of the parking lot. I sat in the back seat, staring at the backs of the two in front, feeling a chill run through me. Casper seemed pretty chatty, talking with Gillian about work stuff, from project planning to team management, like they'd known each other forever. Halfway through, he suddenly changed the subject, his eyes dropping down to Gillian's legs: "Gillian, those black stockings you're wearing today look really nice; they make your legs look slim and straight." My heart sank. Gillian was wearing a knee-length business skirt with black stockings today—her usual work outfit. But an assistant using such a flippant tone to comment on their boss's outfit? That's just not right. Gillian Brady's cheeks flushed slightly as she shot him an annoyed look. "Don't talk nonsense." That playful tone wasn't how a boss talks to an assistant—it sounded more like a couple teasing each other. "I'm just telling the truth." Casper Jackson smiled and added a pointed comment. "Way more tempting than the nude stockings you wore to that party last time." That party? How come I didn't know about that? Last time, Gillian said the company had a social event, but I couldn't go with her because I had to travel out of town for a project. Turns out that day, she was with this "assistant."

I Became a CEO Out of His League

At the engagement ceremony, Melody rushed towards Dylan in the same style of wedding dress: "Dylan! Have you forgotten that you said in the office you would marry me? Have you forgotten the nights we spent tangled up together?" I clenched the hem of my wedding dress tightly, my fingertips turning pale. Dylan's eyes darted around like a fugitive: "Stella, she's just misunderstanding things." "Misunderstanding?" Melody laughed wildly, pulling out a stack of photos from her bag. The images of the two of them embracing in a hotel stabbed my eyes painfully. "Stella, do you really think he loves you? He's just after your family's money, wanting to climb up the social ladder by leveraging the S Group!" Dylan snapped...

After the Heiress Reveals Her Identity

A frigid blade pressed against my neck as Yale snarled, his eyes bloodshot. "Lily! If you hadn't hidden your identity, how could I have ended up like this?" He'd been clutching a bunch of cheap roses, his nose bright red from the cold, saying he wanted to build a home with me. So, for ten years, I'd concealed the fact that I was the daughter of the Lincoln family. I'd squeezed into a fifty-square-meter rental apartment with him, turning down every offer of financial support from my family. I'd truly believed that love could conquer all hardships. But when...

Reckoning of the Queen of the Ashes

"Nora, I'm sorry!" Logan Frank's roar and the sound of my bones shattering erupted simultaneously. I lay in a pool of blood, watching him shield his new lover, Lucy Fey, and flee without a backward glance. I thought I'm done for. But I wasn't. A year later, I stood atop the walls of the Hades' Chamber, staring down at the bound Logan Frank. He looked up, screaming in terror, "Nora Davis? You... you're still alive?" I spoke into the loudspeaker, my voice echoing across the ruins: "Thanks to you, I'm alive." I paused, looking down at him as if he were nothing more than an ant. "Now, it's your turn to answer my question—" "Have you decided how you want...

A Calculated Defamation

"Jinny, you look absolutely stunning." I held her hand, my fingertips growing slightly cold. She rested against my shoulder, her pearl hairpin catching the soft light. "Stephen, from now on, we are one family." The violin's melody flowed, everything perfect, like a scene from a film. Until that voice cut through— "Mr. Stephen." I looked up to find Jesse standing before us, holding a wine glass, smiling like a snake flicking its tongue. Jinny frowned. "Jesse, is there something you need?" "It's nothing," he said, swirling his wine glass, his gaze locked on me. "I'm just curious—how exactly did Mr. Stephen make his fortune abroad?" My heart sank. "What do you mean?"

"Zachary Jackson!" I screamed, suffocating in the pressing crowd, a sharp pain stabbing through my right hand as I cried out to him nearby. He held Thea Marley tightly in his arms, without looking back, moving forward. His voice was lost in the chaos: "Thea's terrified. I have to get her out first!" "Today is my birthday!" I helplessly watched them vanish into the evacuating crowd, tears streaming uncontrollably from the choking smoke. He didn't show up for three days while I was hospitalized. Until I saw Thea Marley's post — leaning against him, captioned "Thankful for you," and his reply pierced my eyes with pain. When he finally called, my voice trembled: "Zachary, do you even have me in...

Lies on a Rainy Night

On a rainy night, I, fifteen years old, curled up inside the wardrobe, listening to my Father's agonized screams from downstairs, my heart torn asunder.
