The Heir's Counterattack

When I pushed open the gleaming glass door of "X Technology," the receptionist was buried in her work, her fingers flying as she sorted the documents on the desk. Just as my fingers touched the cold punch clock, I heard the sharp clack of high heels behind me, coming closer with an unmistakable sense of authority. "Showing up right on the dot on your first day? Are interns really this disrespectful these days?" I looked up to see a head of chestnut-colored big waves casually resting on her shoulders, the ends swaying slightly as she spoke. Ruby Clark was holding a neatly folded A4 sheet, her eyeliner thin and long, the corners of her eyes slightly lifted, radiating an unapproachable arrogance. She was the daughter of the department manager, Layla Lee, known around the company as the "princess." Using her mom's position, she always bossed everyone around. "There was a traffic accident on the way, so I got held up a bit." I explained as I shoved my backpack under the desk, just wanting to sit down quickly and get familiar with the work—not looking to cause any trouble on my first day. But Ruby Clark wasn't about to let me off that easily. She suddenly stepped forward and slapped the paper down on my desk with a loud "smack." The paper unfolded, and the bold black title "Special Rules for Interns" jumped out at me. I quickly scanned two lines: "No use of employee-only coffee machines," "Printing documents requires prior approval and personal review," "No lingering in the office outside work hours," and seven more rules packed tightly together, each one clearly aimed at me. "These rules were made just for you." She leaned in close, the strong scent of perfume mixed with a weird sense of pressure hitting me. "My mom only got you this internship because of family connections. Don't go thinking you're a real employee—know your place." My fingertips clutching the paper turned pale, and my knuckles felt cold. After all, this internship was only because of my Aunt Layla Lee, so I didn't want to start off on bad terms. I forced down the discomfort in my chest and nodded, "I got it." Ruby Clark saw I didn't push back, a smug smile crossing her face as she turned away, clicking her high heels and walked into the manager's office nearby without even looking back, the door shutting sharply behind her.
