The Lie Beside You

2026-03-04

I once believed I had a happy marriage, yet I never realized I was trapped in a deception that had lasted seven years. By chance, I overheard my husband conspiring with his so-called "sister." It became clear that I had been nothing more than her "mobile blood bank." Their plan was that, after I endured two more blood transfusions and my body recovered, they would extract my bone marrow to treat her illness. Then they'll cast me aside and live their own life together. I feigned ignorance, seizing the opportunity to revisit our past and gather evidence...收起

Chapter 1 of "The Lie Beside You"

I sat before the dressing table, my fingertips repeatedly caressing the platinum ring on my ring finger. This ring has been worn for a full seven years, its edges long since polished smooth and bright by time. Like Caleb Lewis's tenderness toward me—seemingly flawless at first glance, yet in truth concealing countless invisible fractures I had never noticed before. In the dressing table's mirror, my slightly pale face is reflected, exhaustion beneath my eyes impossible to conceal. "Bella, it is time to go to the hospital for your routine check-up." Caleb's voice came from outside the bedroom door, still carrying his usual gentleness, without a hint of abnormality. His footsteps gradually drew near, stopping at the doorway. I took a deep breath and rose to open the door. He habitually reached out, attempting to wrap his arm around my waist, but I instinctively moved aside. The air seemed to freeze instantly; his movement stalled halfway. His hand lingered in midair, a flash of surprise swiftly crossing his eyes, then a carefully measured smile appeared: "What's the matter? Still angry about yesterday? I worked late and didn't have time to bring your favorite dessert from that shop, but I'll make it up to you when I get home tonight, alright?" "No." I lowered my eyelids, avoiding his gaze, my fingertips unconsciously clutching the hem of my clothes. "Just a little tired. I didn't sleep well last night." In truth, I hadn't slept a wink all night; my mind was filled with the words I overheard outside the guest room yesterday. "If you didn't sleep well, why didn't you call me?" He stepped forward, his voice edged with concern, reaching out to touch my forehead. "Are you feeling unwell? If you're truly exhausted, shall we postpone today's examination for a day?" I stepped back, avoiding his hand. "No need. Let's keep to the schedule. Don't let it be delayed." I fear that if I stay with him for even one more second, I will be unable to restrain myself from exposing his lies.

My Marriage, My Say

I clutched the premarital medical report and dialed Melody's number right away. "This is the seventh time! What on earth are you trying to do by altering the report and posting it on Moments?" She sneered. "Nicole, you can't even stand this little test if you want to marry into the Lynn Family? I just let everyone laugh at you. Why are you taking it so seriously?" "Laugh at me?" I shot back. "Calling it a joke to humiliate me with a red stamp that says 'low-grade sow'? Melody, do you really think I'm that easy to bully?" The door opened, and Henry cut me off. "Nicole, Melody's just messing around. Let it go. It's beneath you to keep harping...

The Photo Album

As the morning mist, heavy with the dampness of pothos, seeped into my nostrils, the phone vibrated like a grenade about to detonate. The encrypted signal from the military district pierced the screen in an instant. I stared at the cold cup of tea on the bedside table — the tranquility of the third day of leave shattered more completely than the tea leaves at the bottom of the cup. Top-secret A-level files, departure within one hour. The icy shards in the phone call sank down my throat as I felt the hand reaching for my field uniform begin to burn. The words "Photo Album" exploded before my eyes in the encrypted message — this was no ordinary image. When...

A Rainy Day at the Nail Beauty Shop

On a rainy night at the nail beauty shop, I ducked in to escape the rain for ten minutes, only to be forced by the owner to pay a "venue fee" priced at five thousand. She flaunted a diamond ring: "Mark Young gave me this."—That was exactly the wedding ring I tossed into the trash last week. I smiled and handed over my card: thirty thousand upfront to steady the nerves, three hundred thousand to follow. Ten minutes later, a bodyguard kicked the door open: "Young Lady, are you closing the shop?" They didn't know that I, Reagan Clark, came today to collect my husband's body.收起

The Scars You Can't See

"Mom, I actually want Aunt Luna to be my mom more." Oscar's words felt like a knife stabbing into my heart. I stumbled toward the study and heard Edward Greenspan's voice inside: "Luna, wait a little longer, I'll make you official." I pushed open the door; the walls were covered with photos of Luna Roger. Edward Greenspan was gently stroking her photo frame. "When Oscar is a bit older, I'll divorce Freya Roger." My voice trembled, "Why?" "You were unconscious for three years. Luna was the one who stayed with me." He turned away, his eyes calm. "I've fallen in love with her." "What about me? What about our ten years together?" He handed me a check. "I can give...

When My Fiancee is the Company Manager

On the third night of gastric bleeding, I curled up on the hospital bed counting each drip—each one a countdown from Linda Carter. I smiled as I gave her the password—our anniversary—but in my heart, I renamed it a day of mourning. On the day of discharge, her new secretary shattered the goldfish I had raised for three years; blood mingled with water, flowing like a trailer of doom. This time, I will pry open her kingdom—and her coffin lid—with the USB of the project she kicked aside.收起
