The Mother Who Forgot

2026-03-04

When I woke up, a splitting headache struck me, and a strange little boy was clutching the hem of my clothes, timidly saying, "Mom, you're awake?" The next moment, the door was kicked open, and Dylan Lynn slammed the divorce papers in my face: "Today is Sophia's birthday. Don't cause any trouble." I looked at him with a cold sneer, my memory utterly blank, but instinctively tore the papers to shreds. "Want a divorce? Fine, but first get me out of the psychiatric hospital." Flames soared inside the warehouse as I held the child's hand and turned to leave—this time, it was their turn to go to hell.收起

Chapter 1 of "The Mother Who Forgot"

The headache felt like countless needles stabbing, dense and prickly, carrying a dull, heavy ache that spread from my temples throughout my entire skull. I suddenly opened my eyes, and what greeted me was an unfamiliar ceiling—the off-white latex paint marked with faint stains, like an abstract painting that made no sense. The scent of the strange room hung around my nose, mixed with a faint dust smell and a subtle trace of disinfectant, making me feel slightly nauseous. A little boy stood by the bed, timid and slightly hunched, as if afraid to disturb something. He held half a cookie in his hand; its edges were a bit crumbled, as if it had been there for a while. His hair was soft, pressed against his forehead, with a few unruly strands hanging down, partially covering his eyes. "Mom, you're awake?" His voice was as soft as a whisper, gently drifting into my ear, tinged with uncertainty and caution, as if afraid of a negative answer. Mom? I suddenly sat up, the abrupt movement tugging at the nerves in my head, bringing a sharp pain again. I took a breath, my eyes locked tightly on his pale little face. The child looked about four or five years old, wearing a blue shirt, its collar crooked and the cuffs frayed. There was an indescribable familiarity in his brows and eyes—the slight upward tilt at the corners looked exactly like someone deep in my memory, yet it felt completely unfamiliar, sending a wave of dizziness through my heart. "Who are you?" My voice felt as dry as sandpaper scraping wood, each word strained and heavy, as if a wad of cotton was lodged in my throat—neither swallowing nor spitting it out. He drew back slightly, his small body trembling, his eyes instantly reddening like two ripe cherries, large tears welling up and about to fall. "I'm Alan, Mom. Have you forgotten again?" His voice cracked with tears, full of hurt and confusion, as if he couldn't understand why Mom didn't recognize him. At that moment, the bedroom door was kicked open with a bang; the door slammed against the wall, making the framed painting on the wall shake. Dylan Lynn stood in the doorway, dressed in a black suit, his tie perfectly knotted, accentuating his upright posture, broad shoulders, and narrow waist—still that handsome and suave figure. But his eyes were like tempered ice, so cold they sent a shiver down your spine, as if they could freeze the very air. His brows were slightly furrowed, corners of his mouth turned down, showing clear impatience. "Get up as soon as you wake up, don't waste time." He slammed a document onto the bedside table, the clash of paper breaking the room's silence. "Today is Sophia's birthday. Behave yourself and don't cause me any trouble."

Truth in the Bones

"Chris, how dare you say Nancy's death has nothing to do with you?" A cold voice cut through the air. I spun around sharply. It was a stranger, his eyes venomous. "Who are you? Stop spouting nonsense here." I forced down my panic, my tone icy and sharp. "You have no right to speak her name." The man let out a scoff and tossed over a yellowed notebook. "Nonsense? Take a look at this." My breath hitched when I caught sight of the word Nancy on the cover. "Four hundred and thirty-seven drug trials—every last bit of agony is written in here. How dare you claim you didn't force her into this?" He closed in on me step by step....

The Stand-in's Revenge

I sold myself to Caleb Lewis with my own hands, all for a mere stand-in contract. He made me play the malicious villainess, shielding his true love from harm and sleeping with him. I believed that guarding my heart would let me walk away unscathed, until the banquet's giant screen revealed our bed photo— Before all eyes, he shielded his first love and coldly demanded, "Tina Xavier, was it you who did this?" In that moment, I realized: the stand-in was not a role, but an original sin.收起

Lies That Gnaw at Family

I blocked the basement door, clutching the stack of fake overseas photos. My voice trembled, but every word cut like a blade: "Mia, did you do this? Did you spread those rumors too?" She twirled a strand of hair, her smile vicious yet unapologetic: "So what if I did? Mom, Dad, and Brother only believe me. Who'd ever trust someone as 'superfluous' as you?" "I saved your life!" I lunged forward and grabbed her wrist. "I pushed you out of the way during the car crash! I worked part-time jobs to buy you that cake! Why would you ruin me?" She wrenched her arm free, her eyes glinting with malice: "Because you're in my way! Their love was always meant...

My Ex Takes My Daughter

In the warm light of the music store, I was accompanying Tina to choose a practice piano when a familiar male voice suddenly pierced my eardrums, freezing the blood in my veins. Charles stood not far away, dressed in a neat suit and leather shoes. He looked more composed than he had seven years ago, yet the arrogance of his younger self still lurked in his eyes. "Bella, seven years apart, and you're still so shabby," he said as he walked over, his gaze sweeping over Tina and me with a condescending contempt in his tone. "Buying this kind of cheap piano for the kid? If you hadn't plagiarized back then, would you have ended up so hard up?" I...

The Warmth Not in the Deal

"Fiona?" Felix Green held a cigar between his fingertips. His black suit made him stand tall and straight, and his voice was imposing. "Stay here and obey my rules." "What do you want me to do?" I stepped back warily. Dylan shoved me forward. "Fiona, take good care of Mr. Green." "I don't need a servant." Felix chuckled, cutting Dylan off. "The money's been transferred to your account. Leave." The heavy door clicked shut. I was like a bird in a cage. "My rules," he said. "Don't ask questions that aren't your business. Be at my beck and call." "What about my freedom?" I turned to look at him. He grabbed my wrist, his grip tight and forceful. "You lost...

With a carefully chosen gift for my father's milestone 60th birthday in hand, I hurried home full of joy, hoping to surprise him. The Dark Side of Wedding

"Debra Buck, you're truly the most obedient dog the Buck family has ever raised." Allen Shane grasped my chin; the first words he spoke to me at the end of the wedding aisle shattered every disguise he had worn. The ring slipped coldly onto my finger, but I felt the engraving inside — his and Sylvia Buck's initials. My blood instantly froze. "Surprised?" He pressed close to my ear, his breath scorching, his words venomous: "You stole her identity, so I'll let you taste what it's like to live as a laughingstock under her name." The guests' blessings crashed down like a tidal wave. I clenched my skirt, my fingertips digging into the palm of my hand: "Allen Shane, you...

Revenge is My Birthday Gift

He gripped my chin, forcing me to look at my father's pale face on the screen. "Either he dies, or you do." He smiled, "Make your choice, my fiancée." My mouth was gagged; I could not speak, only desperately shook my head. Tears blurred my vision, but I clearly saw the determination in my father's eyes. "Jenny, live well." Those were my father's final words. Then came a muffled sound. Miguel Raymond released me, his fingertips brushing my cheek: "Happy birthday." I slumped against the car seat, the sound of the world collapsing deafening in my ears. It wasn't until he turned to get out of the car that I forced the words through clenched teeth: "You'll regret this." He...
