The Perfect Wife's Trap

2026-03-04

Married for years, my wife was gentle and virtuous; everyone in the family praised her. But on Thanksgiving night, I publicly asked for a divorce, and everyone said I'd lost my mind. Until I presented the AI surveillance footage—she remotely turned on the gas to poison me, set the air conditioner below zero to freeze me, and even plotted to kill my assistant. All of it was ordered by her father, and behind it lurks a decades-old murder connected to black market blood sampling...收起

Chapter 1 of "The Perfect Wife's Trap"

Today is Thanksgiving. Outside the window, the plane tree leaves lay thick on the ground, golden fragments scattered across the lawn like someone had scattered broken sunlight. I stood by the entrance changing my shoes, the coolness of the office air conditioner still lingering on my fingertips. The scent of roast turkey drifted through the house, mingling with the sweet notes of cinnamon and apples—Sabrina Thompson's favorite. "Jack, you're home!" Sabrina came running out of the kitchen, flour smudged on her apron. I gave a grunt in reply, setting my briefcase down on the sofa. The dining table was already set in the living room; crystal glasses caught the light and sparkled. "Mom's already here, resting in her room." Sabrina Thompson took my hand, her smile warm and sweet. I nodded silently. Actually, I hadn't really had a proper conversation with her since last week. It's not that I didn't want to—I just didn't know how to find the words. Dinner was ready quickly; Sabrina Thompson brought the roast turkey to the table, its golden skin looking so tempting. "Mom, try this. I learned it specially from the recipe." Sabrina served a piece of meat to my mom. My mom smiled and nodded. "Mmm, this tastes really good. Sabrina really put her heart into it." Sabrina Thompson picked up another piece for me. "Jack, you should eat too—you've been busy all day." I took the fork and ate slowly, but my heart felt weighed down by a heavy stone. There were other relatives and friends at the table, all invited by Sabrina, who said it was to liven up Thanksgiving. Everyone was chatting and laughing; the atmosphere was warm and harmonious. Halfway through the meal, Sabrina suddenly stood up, holding a glass of red wine. "Today is Thanksgiving. I have something I want to say to everyone." Her voice was gentle as her gaze swept over the people gathered. My heart skipped a beat—I had a bad feeling. "First, I want to thank Mom for taking care of us these past few years and managing the household. You've worked so hard." Sabrina Thompson bowed deeply to my mom. My mom quickly stood up and said, "We're family—there's no need to be so formal." "Also, the person I'm most grateful to is Jack." Sabrina turned to look at me, her eyes shining. "Thank you for always accepting me, supporting me, and giving me a warm home. From now on, I'll live well with you and take good care of Mom." After she finished speaking, she bowed deeply to me. Everyone around applauded, and someone even smiled, saying, "What a loving couple." My mom was grinning from ear to ear, repeatedly saying, "Good, good." But I couldn't smile; the heaviness in my heart only grew. I put down my fork, looked up, and stared at Sabrina Thompson. She remained bowed, a hopeful smile on her face. The applause went on, but to me, it sounded unbearably sharp. "Sabrina," I said softly, my voice enough to silence the room. Sabrina froze for a moment, then slowly straightened up and looked at me with confusion. "Jack, what's wrong?" I took a deep breath and said, slowly and clearly, "Let's get a divorce." That sentence hit like a thunderclap, silencing the entire room. Everyone's smiles froze, their eyes fixed steadily on me. Sabrina's face went pale instantly; she stared at me in disbelief. "Jack, you... what did you say? You must be joking." I shook my head. "I'm not joking. I'm serious." "Jack! Are you out of your mind?" My mother suddenly stood up, pointed at me, her voice shaking, "What day is today? What nonsense are you spouting?" "Yeah, Jack, have you been drinking too much?" The cousin next to me stood up as well and tugged on my arm. "Sabrina is such a good wife—how can you just say divorce like that?" The cousin frowned, her tone tinged with displeasure. Sabrina Thompson stood there, tears rushing down instantly. "Jack, why? Weren't we fine? Why suddenly divorce?" I looked into her tear-red eyes, my heart not stirring in the slightest. Because I know what kind of conspiracy lies behind this "we were fine."

The Heiress's Project

"Cindy, you're the long-lost daughter of the Lincoln family!" On the other end of the phone, Mr. Quiller's voice was filled with incredible excitement. But before I could even process this, a sudden upheaval unfolded at the company where I worked. "Cindy! Your unexcused absence ruined the project—you must compensate for the five million in losses!" Felix slammed his fist on the table and roared. I hurried to defend myself: "Mr. Shawn, I submitted a leave application for personal reasons, and I also handed over the project!" "Humph, you intentionally provided wrong data during the handover, and now you still want to deny it?" Mary sneered sharply from the side. "I didn't! I have the handover checklist and data backups!"...

No Longer A Doormat Wife

The day I came home, cured of cancer, I saw another woman sleeping in my bed. Her smile curved her eyes, looking just like I did when I was twenty. My five-year-old son cuddled in her arms, sweetly calling her "Mom." My husband, Marcus Stafford, frowned and pulled me aside: "Don't scare Veronica, she's pregnant." I touched the scar on my belly from giving birth, and suddenly I laughed through my tears.收起

My Double Life

My fingertips gently brushed the invitation in the inner pocket of the off-white suit. The glory of the National Piano Championship seemed within easy reach, yet an ominous premonition pierced my heart like a cold wind. "Time's up, Hugo. We should head out now." Stacy's voice was still as soft as ever, but for some inexplicable reason, it sent a shiver down my spine. The moment the car door was pulled open, a sudden massive force struck. With a loud "thud!", my fingers were tightly crushed, and a wave of intense pain surged over me. "Stacy! Have you lost your mind?" My eyes widened in disbelief as I stared at the girl who had once fought side by side with...

After I Can See Again

The day I took off the blindfold, the world stung me to tears— The first thing I saw was the wedding photo in the living room; the groom was my husband, but the bride was not me. The nanny came in carrying medicine, her face matching the one in the photo, smiling like a knife. It turned out that in those three years of darkness, they played me alone— even my blindness was a lie. I clenched the listening device in my palm and whispered, 'Now, whose turn is it to be blind?'收起

The Dead Dog

The moment the hallway light came on, I saw that pair of unfamiliar men's shoes—mud spotted with fallen plane tree leaves, like blood. Duffy, the ten-year-old dog, sniffed at them and suddenly growled low at me, as if sensing death. Windy Scott's voice came sharply from the living room: "Send it away." That one sentence condemned both me and the dog to death. That night, I memorized the temperature of hatred.收起

I Married the Kidnapped Girl

The interrogation room's light was brutally pale and dazzling. I lay face down on the cold metal table, the dull ache at the back of my neck still spreading. Beside my ear, the officer's sharp questioning struck like a hammer: "Mason Lee, Ruby Clark has already identified you as the perpetrator of the serial murder case. The evidence is conclusive—why won't you confess?" The sudden sharp pain intensified. I snapped my eyes open to see the familiar ceiling of my rented room, the peeling cheap paint exactly as I remembered. The mobile phone screen glowed, the date searing onto my retina like a red-hot iron—the day, five years ago, when Ruby Clark first dragged me into this abyss. In my...
