Chapter 1 of "The Unborn Baby's Fight"
I woke up in a warm, dark place; everything around was quiet, but I could clearly feel every little noise from outside.
The owner of this body is named Maggie Scott. She gently strokes her belly, her voice full of unmistakable pride: "Baby, just wait a little longer. Once we step through the Green Family's front door, you'll officially be the young master. No one will dare to bully us."
My heart skipped a beat. The Green Family? That surname feels so familiar, like it's carved deep into my bones, yet still blurry.
Not long after, Maggie packed her things and took me to the hospital.
The sharp smell of disinfectant seeped through my belly's skin, making me furrow my brow—even though I was just a fetus, and my features weren't fully formed yet.
On the hospital bed in the ward lay a pale woman, so thin she was barely skin and bones. Her patient gown hung loosely, but her eyes burned with stubborn resilience.
When Maggie Scott walked up to the bedside, I finally got a clear look at the woman's face.
At that moment, it felt like an invisible hand gripped my heart so tightly, I could barely breathe—that woman was my mom from my past life, Mrs. Green, Quinn Lynn!
Maggie Scott pulled over a chair and sat beside the hospital bed, deliberately raising her voice, afraid that Quinn Lynn wouldn't hear: "Ms. Lynn, I'm really sorry to disturb your rest."
"But the child in my belly is Caleb Green's flesh and blood. Someday, he'll be the only heir to the Green Family."
Quinn Lynn's lips moved slightly, like she wanted to say something, but her body was too weak to make a sound. She could only watch helplessly as Maggie bragged, the light in her eyes fading little by little.
I couldn't hold it in anymore—I began kicking wildly inside Maggie Scott's belly, thrashing my arms and legs, desperate to make her understand that I hated her, hated how she bullied Mom!
Maggie Scott frowned at my kicks, clutching her belly as she said, "What's wrong with this kid?"
"Usually so well-behaved, and suddenly being so naughty today!"
I didn't stop; I kept struggling, kicking even harder than before.
Just then, the hospital ward door creaked open, and a man in a sharp suit walked in.
He was tall and handsome, but I recognized him instantly—he was my dad from my past life, Caleb Green.
Caleb didn't even glance at Quinn Lynn lying on the hospital bed; he walked straight over to Maggie Scott, his voice full of concern: "Maggie, what's wrong?"
"Is the child feeling unwell?"
Maggie immediately dropped her earlier arrogance and put on a pitiful look: "Caleb, I just came to see Ms. Lynn, wanted to talk to her."
"But I don't know what happened, the child suddenly started kicking around—maybe it's... maybe it just doesn't like the atmosphere here."
I got even angrier, tossing and turning inside the womb, and deliberately kicked Maggie Scott's bladder.
Caleb Green frowned and looked at Quinn Lynn, his eyes full of blame: "Quinn Lynn, if you don't want to see Maggie, just say so straight up. Don't mess with her and the child like this!"
"You know perfectly well she's pregnant and can't handle stress."
Quinn Lynn opened her mouth, her pale lips trembling as she tried to deny it, but in the end, she had no strength to argue. She slowly closed her eyes, a single tear slipping from the corner down her cheek, dripping onto the pillow and leaving a small wet stain.
I watched Mom, helpless and broken, and my heart ached with pain and anger.
I hated Caleb Green's ignorance, hated how he blamed Mom without even knowing the facts. And I hated Maggie Scott even more—so cruel, using me as a weapon to hurt Mom over and over.
