Chapter 1 of "The Wedding Day Call"

I stood by the office's floor-to-ceiling window, watching the endless flow of cars below. The bankruptcy notice sprawled across the table felt like a heavy stone pressing down on me, making it hard to breathe. My phone rang abruptly. I glanced at the caller ID—it was Leah Quentin's father. I took a deep breath and pressed the answer button. "Lucien Xavier, come to my company. I have something to discuss with you." The voice on the other end was cold, utterly devoid of warmth. I hung up, grabbed my coat, and walked out of the place I had struggled in for five years. Leah Quentin's father's company was housed in the most luxurious office building in the city center. After the front desk notified him, I was taken up to the CEO's office on the top floor. Leah's father sat behind the massive desk, a cigar clenched between his fingers. Without even glancing at me, he pulled a bank card from the drawer and tossed it onto the desk. "There's fifty million on this card." His voice dripping with disdain, he said, "Take this money and leave Leah." I fixed my gaze on the bank card lying on the desk, its surface shining coldly under the light. That fifty million felt like a resounding slap, striking me hard across the face. I know. He has always looked down on me, thinking I'm not worthy of his daughter. Now that the company is bankrupt, he's even more convinced I have no right to stay by Leah Quentin's side. I said nothing. Slowly, I bent down and picked up the bank card. "I will leave her." My voice was low, but carried an unwavering firmness that allowed no doubt. Leah's father nodded with satisfaction and waved his hand, signaling I could go. I turned and walked out of the office without looking back. Outside the office building, a light rain had begun to fall. The rain hit my face, cold and biting to the bone. I gripped the bank card tightly, with only one thought in my mind: I must rise again, and this time, even higher. I can't let Leah Quentin suffer along with me, nor can I allow others to look down on me. I returned to the rented room and packed a few simple belongings. Staring at the photo of Leah and me on the wall, she was smiling so brightly. I gently stroked her face in the photo, silently repeating in my heart: Leah, wait for me—I promise I'll come back and give you the best life. I opened my computer and transferred all my assets, including the house I'd just put a down payment on, into Leah Quentin's name. After finishing everything, I shut down the computer and deleted every contact related to Leah Quentin. I couldn't let her find me; I couldn't let her see me in my current disgrace. The next day, I left the city where I had lived for so many years and went alone to City G. City G is a place full of opportunities and challenges, as well as a gathering spot for the wealthy. I knew it would be hard to establish myself here. But I had no other choice. Clutching that fifty million, I began searching for investment opportunities. At first, no one believed in me—an outsider who had just gone bankrupt. I faced rejection time and again, hitting dead end after dead end. But I never gave up. During the day, I ran to every company I could find, searching for collaboration opportunities. At night, I stayed in my rented room, studying business knowledge and analyzing market trends. Heaven rewards those who are diligent. At a business cocktail party, I met a real estate tycoon. I presented him with a bold investment proposal. At first, he wasn't interested, but after my detailed analysis and arguments, he finally agreed to give me a chance. I seized the opportunity, pouring every ounce of effort into making the project thrive. The success of this project allowed me to emerge prominently in the business world of City G. More and more people began to take notice of me.

Love's Deception

On the eve of our wedding, I accidentally discovered that my fiance had secretly sold our wedding home, funneling the money to his so-called "terminally ill" first love. Though my heart softened and I momentarily believed him, at the engagement banquet he publicly betrayed me, announcing he would donate the shares my parents left me to that first love's Foundation. I exposed the lie and uncovered that the supposed terminal illness was a complete sham. Without hesitation, I launched my counterattack...收起

I Dump My Ex After I Wake Up

I had just woken up when Eric's face—familiar yet strange—came into view. There was no joy of reunion, only impatience in his expression. As for my son Nick, his gaze was so distant, as if he were looking at a stranger. "Mom, why are you awake?" Nick asked in a cold tone. I struggled to speak, "How long... have I been in a coma?" "Three years," Eric said lightly, his voice carrying no weight. "Three years?" My eyes widened in shock. This was nothing like what I had expected. At that moment, Nick muttered softly, "Dad was supposed to marry Annie. She's already pregnant." Eric tried hard to stay calm. "Wendy, it's not what you think." I let out a...

The Day My World Shattered

I stared at my phone screen, Frank River's reply burned my eyes: "Nona broke up, crying badly, I have to stay with her." "Today is my birthday!" I almost shouted. "Can you be more mature?" He was impatient, "I'll buy you a cake tomorrow, and transfer the money to you." Three hours later, I saw them on the street corner—Nona Sullivan buried in his neck, and he held her like something fragile, so gentle. "Sienna, listen to me explain—" he rushed over. "We're breaking up." My voice was as cold as ice. He froze, then growled low, "Don't mess with me! There's really nothing going on between me and her!" I turned and walked away. My phone rang; a stranger's...

His Success Dies With Me

The day I met Joseph Charles, he was like a stray dog crouching in the slum, clutching half a hardened bread, yet his eyes shone with astonishing brightness. He begged me for a scrap of food. I lifted him from the mud and personally shaped him into the radiant CEO of Charles Group. On my thirty-fifth birthday, he gave me a gilded gift box I had lingered to admire a month earlier at the boutique. I was deeply moved; he stroked my hair with a smile: "You're worth every penny." Suddenly, the phone screen lit up—the City Forum had pushed a post he had anonymously published. The title read: "Complaining about that old woman at home, who is past her...

I Saved Her, He Stole Her

"Joshua, let's get married in a month." Olivia Salazar rose on her tiptoes and kissed me. Her tears still stained my collar, burning hot like a vow. I didn't have time to answer before her phone rang. She turned away to answer, her voice barely above a whisper. "...Yes, the press conference will proceed as planned, but don't mention his name." My fingers froze mid-air, and my heart sank sharply. "Olivia, who were you speaking with?" She turned back, her gaze evasive: "Company matters. By the way, don't attend the press conference in person tomorrow." "Why?" "Because..." she took a deep breath. "I have an announcement to make, and it concerns Hans Scott." She didn't look at me. My throat...

Too Late to Regret

On the wedding day, my groom draped my wedding dress over his secretary's dying dog. He splashed red wine on me, burned the back of my hand, yet he did not know that I was already fatally ill. In the end, he shoved me into a coffin and arranged a ghost marriage for me. After I died, he dug open my grave and lay beside me, sacrificing himself in love.收起
