Wrong Love, Right Starlight

I saw with my own eyes Seward Louis burn my admission letter. That was my third admission letter. "Are you crazy? I spent three years earning this!" I rushed forward, trying to save my admission letter. He deftly stepped over the ashes, his tone calm: "Kinsey needs that spot. And you need to stay with the Louis family." "So all my efforts over these four years are just meant to be a stepping stone for your sister?" Suddenly, he leaned down and gripped my chin. "Of course. As compensation, I can marry you. The mistress of the Louis estate—does that sound enough?" I laughed, tears falling onto the back of his hand. In that moment, I finally woke up: the person I spent all my youth adoring only wanted to raise me like a bird in his cage.收起

Chapter 1 of "Wrong Love, Right Starlight"

My fingertips gripped the admission letter to University A for my fourth year. The edges of the paper were wrinkled with sweat, but nothing could dull the shine of the gold-embossed letters. Three years of preparing for the graduate entrance exam, three times failing; everyone else laughed at my arrogance. Only I knew this was the closest I could ever get to Seward Louis. He was my benefactor, the figure I adored throughout my entire youth. I once thought that getting into his alma mater would finally make me worthy of him. I pushed open the door, and the living room was thick with the acrid smell of burning paper. Seward stood by the fireplace, holding a half-burnt piece of paper in his hand. That familiar layout—it was last year's admission letter. My heart sank sharply, and I rushed over to grab his wrist. "What are you doing?" Seward slowly released his grip, ashes drifting onto the carpet like broken dreams. "Nothing." He said calmly, "Just a worthless piece of paper." "Worthless?" My voice trembled, "That's my admission letter!" "I'm the one who made you fail the exam." Seward looked up, his eyes empty of any guilt. "The admission letters from the first three years, plus the one that should've arrived early this year, I've held onto them all." I stepped back in disbelief. "Why?" "Kinsey needs someone to take care of her." He said matter-of-factly, "Wouldn't it be better if you stayed with the Louis family to look after her?" "I'll pay you a salary. You won't need to work hard or go out looking for a job. Isn't going to University A all about getting a job and making money?" Seward's younger sister, Kinsey Louis, was his precious treasure, pampered and spoiled since childhood. "So you mean all my hard work over the past three years was just to be a nanny for your sister in your eyes?" "Not entirely." Seward pulled a document from the drawer. "I didn't waste your admission spot." "Kinsey will use your spot to get into University A; she just happens to need that degree to get into the research institute and polish her credentials." "As compensation," he said, looking at me, "I can marry you and make you mistress of the Louis estate." Mistress of the Louis estate? I laughed until tears ran down my face. So his "compensation" was to imprison me for life within the Louis family, turning me into a free nanny and ornament. "Seward Louis," I wiped my tears away, my gaze clear, "I don't want your compensation." "And I won't love you anymore." The words struck like a sharp knife, tearing through his calm facade. Seward's face darkened instantly. "Luna, say that again." "I said I don't love you anymore. I'm leaving." I spoke each word slowly and firmly, with absolute resolve. "Leaving?" He stepped closer, pinching my chin with a strength that made me wince. "I can give you wings, but I can still break them." "You really think you can leave without me?" I stared straight into his eyes, without a trace of fear. "We'll see about that."

Tear the Check, Get the Hex Back

"Miley Terry, you spent me twenty million in six months. You think you're getting five million now? Not a da*n cent." I slammed the torn check into her face. Under the private room's crystal chandelier, her smile froze at the corner of her mouth. "Eugene Troy, you tore up the check, so don't expect me to go easy on you!" she screamed. "Your 'Peach Blossom Hex' isn't over yet. The Mystic said—" Before she could finish, a sharp cracking sound echoed from above. Boom! The massive crystal chandelier shattered between us, glass shards flying everywhere amid screams. Amid the smoke and dust, all I could hear were her brother's agonized screams and her wails. I stood at the edge of...

The Family I Choose

I clutched Charles' recovery report and had just reached the door of the study when I heard the harsh sound of scheming coming from inside. Sarah's delicate voice was laced with triumph: "Mom, once Caleb's company goes public, we'll kick Nicole out. Charles is mine and Caleb's child anyway—she's just a free babysitter!" My mother-in-law's laughter followed: "Exactly! Her dowry will just fill the hole in my son's mortgage. Without Caleb, she's stuck with a child who has cerebral palsy—no one will even care if she starves to death!" My blood turned to ice in an instant. I pushed the door open, and there stood Caleb, not a shred of guilt on his face. "You heard everything?" he asked in...

A Mismatched Marriage

On our fifth wedding anniversary, when Dylan handed me that off-white mink coat, my fingertips turned ice-cold in an instant. "I don't want it," I pushed the gift box back, "This was bought with lives." He raised an eyebrow and scoffed, "Nancy, really? This again? It's just a coat. It keeps you warm and looks decent—so many people would kill to have it." "You just don't get it. Our values are completely incompatible," I clenched my fists tightly, "I can't go on like this." "Can't go on?" His voice shot up, "Over a single coat? You're just a hick from the boondocks, clinging to that silly environmental nonsense because you've never seen the world!" His icy words stabbed at my...

The Price of A Lie

I saved up three years of hard-earned money just to buy her a jewelry set, only to discover at the jewelry store that the ring was just a free gift. Behind that free gift was a diamond ring she bought for another man. I turned and went home, deleting every photo we had together—only to receive a call from her mother accusing me of marriage fraud. This time, I won't tolerate it—188,000, not a cent less, return it to me.收起

The CEO's Fatal Betrayal

The excruciating pain in my abdomen on the hospital bed was piercing. I clutched the bed sheet, listening to the conversation between Mason Lewis and his secretary outside the door, my entire body turning cold. "Are you sure the drug is problem-free?" His voice was laced with impatience. "Don't worry. It won't be traced. That child was never supposed to exist in the first place." The secretary's coquettish laugh grated on my eardrums. "Did Bella not forget to slip the birth control pills?" "It was only the time you went on a business trip that she missed. Otherwise, we wouldn't have all this trouble." So the warm milk and health supplements I'd been taking for three years were all laced...
