I was sold into a brothel by my stepmother and rescued by the powerful Mark Hawthorn. I thought it was salvation, only to find I was merely a vessel to resurrect his lost love. He made me pregnant, intending to trade my child's life to bring her reincarnation back. I faked my death to escape the ordeal of childbirth, watching him fall out with the shaman. In the end, I personally delivered him to the execution grounds and fled far away with my daughter, completely severing this conspiracy disguised as love.收起

Chapter 1 of "Not Prey"

My name is Veronica, the only daughter left behind by the former madam of the Scott Mansion. Ever since my mother passed away, my father has focused all his attention on his favored concubine, Lilith. Lilith is sharp-tongued and cruel; she can't bear to see me have even the slightest happiness. Inside the household, I live worse than a servant. Each day, I endure bland meals and am forced to do all kinds of hard, exhausting chores. If I slip up even slightly, I immediately suffer Lilith's beatings and scoldings. My father turns a blind eye as if I aren't his own daughter. I thought life couldn't be any harsher, but I never imagined Lilith harbored even more wicked schemes. That night, as usual, I finished my work and was about to return to my shabby little wooden hut to rest. Just as I stepped into the yard, two unfamiliar burly men covered my mouth and nose. I struggled desperately, but they were too strong; I couldn't break free. Before long, I lost consciousness. When I woke again, I found myself lying on a soft bed. The room was luxuriously furnished, and a pungent scent of perfume filled the air. A chill ran through me—I had a foreboding feeling. At that moment, a provocatively dressed woman walked in. She looked me up and down, a trace of contempt curling at the corners of her mouth. "You're quite pretty. Tonight's top star will be you." I realized immediately—I had been sold into the brothel by Lilith. Despair surged over me like a tide, and I couldn't hold back my tears. I wanted to escape, but the door was locked tight, and the windows were nailed shut. I was like a bird trapped in a cage, helpless and at the mercy of others. As night fell, the brothel grew lively. The brothel madam dressed me up flamboyantly and forcefully led me into a large hall. The hall was crowded with men of all kinds; their eyes, like hungry wolves, fixed on me, making me feel deeply uneasy. The brothel madam stepped onto the stage and shouted loudly, "Dear guests, tonight's main event begins. This young lady is our newcomer, and the auction for her virginity starts now, with a starting bid of one hundred taels!" The men in the audience began to fervently raise their bids. "One hundred fifty taels!" "Two hundred taels!" "Three hundred taels!" I stood on the stage, feeling like a piece of merchandise, bought and sold at their whim. I closed my eyes, tears welling up in my eyes. Just as I thought I was about to fall into the tiger's jaws, the hall's door was suddenly kicked open. A man dressed in a black brocade robe stepped inside. He was tall, with a stern face, and a gaze that carried a chilling, intimidating coldness. His arrival instantly fell the entire hall silent. The Brothel Madam hurried forward, wearing a flattering smile: "Sir, you're late." The man ignored the Brothel Madam and fixed his gaze on me. He frowned and asked coldly, "Who is the buyer?" A corpulent, ruddy-faced merchant stood up proudly and said, "It's me. I paid five hundred taels for her." The man didn't even glance at the merchant; he ordered his followers behind him, "Drag him out, skin him, and hang him on the city wall." The followers immediately stepped forward and dragged the merchant out. The merchant was terrified out of his mind, begging desperately, but the man remained unmoved. Soon, agonized screams came from outside, sending a chill through me. The man came up to me, took off his coat, and draped it over my shoulders. "Come with me." His voice remained cold, yet I sensed a trace of security within it. I nodded and followed him out of the brothel. Seated in the carriage, I couldn't help but ask, "Thank you, sir, for rescuing me. May I know your full name?" "Mark Hawthorn." He replied simply. "Mr. Hawthorn, why did you save me?" I asked once more. Mark Hawthorn glanced at me and said, "I don't like to see good women traded like property before my eyes."

A Lawyer's Vengeance

On the screen is a surveillance screenshot of Evan George and Willa Xavier at the entrance of my Villa. I lifted the coffee cup and took a sip. "Archive it." "But Mrs. Cara, this is already the third time Mr. George has..." My phone vibrated. It was a message from Evan George: "Cara, the anniversary dinner is booked—the usual place. Forever love you." I curled the corner of my mouth and replied, "Okay." I set my phone down and gazed out at the unceasing flow of traffic outside the window. "Tomorrow morning at nine," my voice was calm, as if discussing the weather, "if I don't show up, send this, along with the encrypted files, to the Procuratorate." The assistant...

The Secret in the Comments

Arthur Silva suddenly grabbed my wrist, spilling coffee all over me. "I... I didn't know she would go this far." "You didn't know?" I stepped closer, forcing the words through clenched teeth, "Arthur, you're an accomplice too." He took half a step back, as if my words had pierced his heart. "Wait—" He stopped me again, his voice hoarse. "What if I said... I have proof? Proof that she planned it all back then." I spun around sharply. "What proof?" He leaned in close, his breath nearly brushing my ear: "There's a recording—she admitted it with her own mouth. But you have to promise me one thing—" "Say it." "Let me see Melody." A dangerous gleam flashed in his eyes....

The Snowscape of Our Goodbye

On the television, Norton Elliott's voice was bitterly cold: "My only regret is that I married Serena Tripp." The remote slipped from my hand. At the zenith of his life, my husband nailed me to the pillar of disgrace. "She killed my parents and had an abortion without my consent." I coughed violently, blood seeping between my fingers. The advanced lung cancer diagnosis in my pocket was the sole countdown I had left. The doorbell rang. Outside the door stood his new lover, Miranda Lopez, a victorious smile playing at the corners of her mouth. "Norton asked me to deliver the invitation. It's our celebration banquet; you must attend." I stared at her. "Do you truly believe he loves you?"...

Entanglement Across Two Lifetimes

Leo clenched his change and screamed through tears: "Sis! Charles gave Lisa more money than me!" I grabbed Charles by the collar and demanded angrily: "Charles, what do you take me for? This wedding is a joke!" He swatted my hand away, his eyes cold: "Linda Scott, don't be ungrateful! Marrying you was always just a transaction!" Lisa leaned against him: "Linda, Charles only has me in his heart. You're nothing but a stepping stone for his rise." I smashed the wine glass to the ground: "A stepping stone? My family treated you well—how dare you scheme against us!" Charles shouted sharply: "Enough! Linda, you're ruining the Scott Family with your own hands!" The company collapsed. My parents died. Leo...

Never Be A Substitute

On Valentine Night, I clenched the pair of rings meant for a proposal, yet I watched in disbelief as my boyfriend knelt before my sister in front of everyone. Four years of deep love, and it turns out I was only her stand-in. The sound of my shattered heart drowned out the applause as I smiled and threw the rings into the champagne tower—wishing them a lifetime of playing their roles well. That night, burning with a fever of forty degrees, I called the ambulance—and also dialed the number to my new life. Later, with red eyes, he begged me to turn back, but I pointed to another ring on my ring finger: "It's too late; I've already married the...

How I wished his research could offer me a sliver of hope. But when I opened it, the folder was completely empty... The doorbell rang; Giles Eaton's voice came with his usual impatience: "Riley! My father sacrificed his life to save a child, but a social media influencer falsely took credit for his heroism. My Husband Paid Her To Bear His Child

"Vera, what did you add to the soup today? It tastes kind of strange." I put down the bowl, my fingertips still sticky with the sweet soup. She smiled, dimples faintly showing, "Mrs. Sullivan, don't worry, it's imported medicinal herbs for fertility support, specially instructed by Mr. Lewis." At that moment, Chandler Lewis pushed the door open, holding a medical report, his face pale, "Thea, what's going on with you? Your hormone levels are all over the place—how can you prepare for pregnancy like this?" I was stunned, turning to look at Vera Watson; a flicker of panic flashed in her eyes before she quickly softened her voice to console, "Mr. Lewis, please don't be angry. Mrs. Sullivan's constitution is...
