My Father is the True Hero

My father sacrificed his life to save a child, but a social media influencer falsely took credit for his heroism. The company insulted my father, saying he "died without value," and only gave me two hundred dollars in compensation. They demoted and humiliated me, while the entire online community slandered my father as a scammer. I pulled my investments to fight back. By the time they knelt in apology, my father had already been posthumously honored as a martyr.收起

Chapter 1 of "My Father is the True Hero"

The lights in the auditorium blazed harshly. I gripped my father's worn and polished old badge tightly, my knuckles white. Today, the company is holding a ceremony to honor those who performed an Act of Courage. But standing on the stage to receive flowers and applause wasn't my father, who had sacrificed his life, but the social media influencer Sara Scott, who was holding her mobile phone by the shore, filming. The host's voice echoed through the speakers, clearly and formally recounting Sara Scott's "heroic deeds." I watched as Sara, dressed in an elegant gown, accepted the Act of Courage trophy with both hands, then took the eighty-thousand-dollar check from Mr. Wyatt, her smile so bright it made me want to vomit. It was clearly Father who saved the child who fell into the water. But Sara was just standing on the shore, clicking away nonstop; she even complained about the angles while Father was struggling to lift the child. I clenched my anger and tried to step forward to reason, but Mr. Wyatt firmly stopped me. Mr. Wyatt's face showed no expression, but his tone was clearly displeased: "Yvonne Johnson, watch your expression. Don't cause trouble in a situation like this." I gritted my teeth and asked, "Mr. Wyatt, it was my father who truly sacrificed himself to save that child. Why is she the one being honored?" Mr. Wyatt sneered, eyes brimming with disdain: "Yvonne, you don't understand." "Sara Scott's video went viral online. Do you realize how much attention it brought to the company? It's free publicity." I couldn't believe my ears, my voice trembling: "So my father's life is worth less than that kind of attention?" Mr. Wyatt frowned, his tone turning colder: "Don't say things like that." "Your father was just an ordinary employee, with no real social value. Whether he died early or late, it makes no difference. Sara Scott is different; she brings profit to the company." That sentence felt like a sharp knife, piercing straight into my heart. I looked at Mr. Wyatt's cold expression, then at Sara Scott on stage, basking in all her glory, and a wave of absurdity and anger welled up inside me. I took a deep breath, swallowed the lump in my throat, and said slowly and clearly, "Mr. Wyatt, I want to withdraw all my investments from the company." Mr. Wyatt was momentarily stunned, clearly not expecting me to say that, then sneered coldly, "Yvonne, don't be impulsive." "Withdrawing your investment won't benefit you. Your father's compensation still depends on the company." "I don't want the compensation." I clenched my father's badge tightly and turned to leave. "From today on, our family has nothing to do with your company."

My Husband Paid Her To Bear His Child

"Vera, what did you add to the soup today? It tastes kind of strange." I put down the bowl, my fingertips still sticky with the sweet soup. She smiled, dimples faintly showing, "Mrs. Sullivan, don't worry, it's imported medicinal herbs for fertility support, specially instructed by Mr. Lewis." At that moment, Chandler Lewis pushed the door open, holding a medical report, his face pale, "Thea, what's going on with you? Your hormone levels are all over the place—how can you prepare for pregnancy like this?" I was stunned, turning to look at Vera Watson; a flicker of panic flashed in her eyes before she quickly softened her voice to console, "Mr. Lewis, please don't be angry. Mrs. Sullivan's constitution is...

My Ungrateful Daughter

My name is Jane Lawrence, and I'm forty-eight years old. That day, I opened the front door and saw two huge suitcases blocking the hallway like silent bombs. My daughter Sophie was applying lipstick in front of the mirror, her bright red lips looking like a fresh wound. She said, "Mom, I want to go abroad with Felix." The keys in my hand suddenly felt as cold as ice.收起

Stop Pestering Me, Ex

Charles slammed the door open, his suit reeking of an unfamiliar perfume. I clutched the kingfisher feather ornament, my knuckles turning white. "Laura, we're done." His voice was cold as ice. "Why? Is it because of Lisa?" I tightened my grip on the ornament, my voice trembling. He scoffed and swatted the feather ornament away. Shards flew everywhere. "What else do you know besides messing with these worthless trinkets? She can help me land projects—can you?" "So you were never with me for anything more than convenience?" I stared at him. "What else?" He stepped closer, his tone cutting, "Don't delude yourself into thinking I actually like your shabby little crafts. Wake up to reality." The doorbell rang. Philip's voice...

The Price of Her Blindness

The day I gave up the position of President of Glory Group, Fiona held me and said, "It's okay, don't worry." However, after I risked alcohol allergy and paid the price of coughing up blood to secure the overseas contract, she supported Jim and turned to leave right away. "Simon, please stop being unreasonable. Jim is drunk, and I have to take him home," she said. "I can barely breathe, Fiona!" I exclaimed. "You can call a taxi," her tone was full of impatience. "You're jealous that Jim can help me, and you think I don't need you anymore." Jim leaned against her and said, "Oh, Simon, Miss Scott needs me now." Then Fiona spoke up, "Simon, let's get a...

The Broken Heart

I once believed that love was the excruciating sacrifice of carving out one's own heart—until I heard the whispered secrets between my husband and his lover. He feigned a terminal illness, deceiving me into tearing open my heart ten times. Each time, the searing pain that shattered my soul was repaid with the crimson nails she painted with the blood of my own heart. When cold chains bound my dragon's body, and the sharp blade was once again aimed at my chest, a Phoenix True Fire—burning away the shackles, along with that man—illuminated the abyss of my despair.收起

Her Secret, His Downfall

"Do you know what I hate the most?" Giselle's red lips brushed against my ear, her voice sweet like poison-dipped honey, "It's idiots like you who can't even attract their own man." I clenched the ribbon on the cake box, my fingertips turning cold. "Jerry's not coming tonight." She chuckled softly, her nails scraping against my cheek. Before she finished, I had already grabbed her wrist. With a sharp snap, the chain on her wrist broke, beads scattering across the floor. Her face suddenly darkened. "Yolanda, are you out of your mind?!" I smiled, turned toward the door, but paused just before opening it and looked back at her. "By the way, is that necklace you're wearing the real thing?"收起
