The Broken Heart

2026-03-04

I once believed that love was the excruciating sacrifice of carving out one's own heart—until I heard the whispered secrets between my husband and his lover. He feigned a terminal illness, deceiving me into tearing open my heart ten times. Each time, the searing pain that shattered my soul was repaid with the crimson nails she painted with the blood of my own heart. When cold chains bound my dragon's body, and the sharp blade was once again aimed at my chest, a Phoenix True Fire—burning away the shackles, along with that man—illuminated the abyss of my despair.收起

Chapter 1 of "The Broken Heart"

My name is Lydia, and I have been married to Hector Zimmerman for five years. For these five years, my life has revolved almost entirely around his supposed "terminal illness." Hector Zimmerman always claimed he had a mysterious heart disease, one only my blood and fragments of my heart could soothe. To save him, I endured unbearable pain again and again, tearing out pieces of my own heart. By now, it has been the tenth time. After each heart extraction, I feel as if every ounce of strength has been drained from me, so weak I must lean on the wall just to walk. That day, after my tenth heart extraction surgery, lying on the hospital bed, I barely had the strength to even open my eyes. Hector Zimmerman sat at the bedside, holding my hand, his eyes filled with concern. He spoke softly, "Lydia, you've endured so much. When I recover, I will surely make it up to you." I smiled weakly, thinking that as long as he got better, everything would be worth it. But I never imagined that behind this "worth it" lay a dreadful deception. That evening, thirsty and longing for water, I struggled to rise and make my way to the living room. Just as I reached the bedroom door, voices drifted from the living room—Hector Zimmerman and Yvette Sue. Yvette Sue was Hector Zimmerman's secretary, frequently appearing at our home under the guise of work. I had never thought much of it before, merely seeing it as ordinary business interaction. But at this moment, their words pierced my heart like sharpened blades. Yvette purred softly, "Hector, after Lydia's heart excavation this time, she must be even weaker, right?" "Her heart fragments truly work; the child in my womb grows ever more stable." Hector's voice bore a tenderness I had never heard before: "Yvette, I'm sorry for your suffering. After some time, I will divorce Lydia and proudly bring you into my home as my wife." "If it weren't for her heart sustaining your pregnancy, I would have confronted her long ago." "What if she finds out?" Yvette Sue asked, worry etched in her voice. Hector Zimmerman sneered, "And what if she does? She's so weak now, she doesn't have the strength to resist." "Besides, she loves me so much that even if she knew, she might still tear her own heart out for me." I stood at the door, my body ice-cold, as if my blood had frozen solid. So it was true—Hector Zimmerman's terminal illness was a deception. Time and again, he forced me to tear out my heart, not to heal his illness, but to use it to sustain Yvette Sue's pregnancy! My five years of sacrifice, the unbearable pain I endured, my steadily weakening body—in his eyes, they were nothing more than tools to preserve his lover's unborn child. Tears streamed down uncontrollably, and my heart felt hollowed out, leaving only boundless coldness and despair. I no longer have the strength to remain in this place steeped in lies and betrayal. I slipped quietly back into the bedroom, summoning all my strength to pack a few simple belongings. While Hector Zimmerman and Yvette Sue still entwined in the living room, I dragged my weakened body, step by agonizing step, out of this "home" where I had lived for five years. The wind outside the door was bitterly cold, slicing through me, forcing a shiver from deep within. But I knew I could never turn back. This place that once brimmed with hope has now transformed into the hell that cuts deepest into my soul. I must escape this place, flee from Hector Zimmerman, flee from this dreadful betrayal. As for what the future may hold, I neither know nor dare to imagine it now. All I know is that I must survive first, and then slowly reclaim everything that belongs to me. I leaned against the wall, advancing step by arduous step. Every step sent waves of searing pain through my body, yet my heart remained fiercely steadfast. Hector Zimmerman, Yvette Sue, what you owe me—one day, I will make you repay it double!

Her Secret, His Downfall

"Do you know what I hate the most?" Giselle's red lips brushed against my ear, her voice sweet like poison-dipped honey, "It's idiots like you who can't even attract their own man." I clenched the ribbon on the cake box, my fingertips turning cold. "Jerry's not coming tonight." She chuckled softly, her nails scraping against my cheek. Before she finished, I had already grabbed her wrist. With a sharp snap, the chain on her wrist broke, beads scattering across the floor. Her face suddenly darkened. "Yolanda, are you out of your mind?!" I smiled, turned toward the door, but paused just before opening it and looked back at her. "By the way, is that necklace you're wearing the real thing?"收起
